Here are some of the best foods to eat that fight depression and anxiety. Nutrition is one of the most overlooked aspects of mental health. However, food has a significant impact on our physical, psychological, and emotional well-being. Sadly, if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or another type of mood disorder, it can be especially challenging to think about what you're eating.

This isn't to say that you need to overhaul your diet completely. But making minor dietary changes may help ease your symptoms, boost your mood, and improve the quality of your life.

While no food will miraculously cure depression, adopting a healthier diet rich in certain foods can certainly improve brain function and overall mental health.

I’m going to try this. Depression is awful. I need to do all I can to help myself.

This is all great advice, but the best remedy for depression and anxiety is still exercise. Any kind will work from a slow jog up to lifting weights. Most of the time, just getting out of the house works wonders but elevating your heart rate for 20 minutes or more will have a huge positive impact on your well-being.

Changed up my diet a few months ago, eliminated coffee and all sugary drinks & cut back on fried foods…anxiety is gone. 🙏🏾

Milk, turkey, eggs, and sunflower seeds gave me severe depression. Eggs also gave me asthma attacks, and sunflower seeds also gave me severe back spasms. I was finally cured of all this when I was given three courses of antibiotics by a Chinese doctor who said I had bad gut bacteria. I took them and have not had any depression since. Now I can eat those foods without any problems. I love Chinese doctors!

Add to all of this, prayer 🙏, and exercise. A prayer journal 📔.

Apples, blueberries, swiss chard, cherry tomatoes, and oats; all good choices that I incorporate into my eating. Thanks for encouraging information.

Journaling is also amazing for your mental health. It allows you to meditate, reflect, visually see any problem you're dealing with and solve it (like a math problem) and most importantly clear your head. I know it ain't food but just wanted to share. Wishing everyone healthy mental health 🥰

I eat them all. But you should also spend time in the nature, if you can, get on the water, that's the best! That's how I recharge my batteries and stay happy. Something about the ocean that lifts my spirit... After spending a day on the water, fishing, cruising and swimming, I FEEL ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!

I've added blueberry kefir to my diet and I've already come off of one of my anti-depressants. I have also been recently incorporating all the foods mentioned and my doctor gave me the green light this weekend to go off the last anti-depressant. Your diet really does play a major role in your overall mental, emotional and physical health.

Several years ago was on a very low fat diet and ended up with very low mood. Now I eat avocados, nuts and seeds, olive oil (thought this would've been on the list), beans, spinach, in fact all the stuff on this list except mushrooms which I detest. I don't eat pasta, rice or wheat only small amount gluten free bread and white and sweet potatoes.
Oily fish like Sardines and salmon helped me. The experts say stabilise your blood sugar and your mood will stabilise also. I agree with this. The first thing to suffer if you don't eat the right foods is your brain/mood.

Walnuts instead of croutons in a green leafy salad with cherry tomatoes and berries in a bowl of oats. Gonna definitely rock these power house options

Informative video. In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. Reduce negative thoughts. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. When taking a walk, at office, in school, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

If am starting to feel low I mix up some tinned sardines with half avocado and tsp ground linseeds, salt and pepper and some lemon juice. Have with some boiled potatoes or gluten free crackers. Then a cuppa tea and some dark chocolate and walnuts. Great!

Great advice overall. Leafy greens are just as delicious as any other food. It's only people who don't know how to cook that think they're boring. Cooked the right way and they are delicious.
