Multiple pets going missing all at once? Highly unlikely to be of natural causes. Cats are very intelligent and know where to come back to for food and shelter. I've had them for a long time and yes they can bond with their humans and become real family to us. Ive raised many from abandoned newborns to adults who I had the privilege of rehoming to amazing people.
The real sad part about this though is alot of neighborhood cats are friendly and used to people so they make easy targets, even more so house cats because they don't know to fear strangers. While they could have run away like any other pet, so many of them dissapearing at once points exactly to poaching. Its similar to when a cruel individual was going around poisoning felines and canines. Its sickening. But of course we found those bodies because they werent eaten. Keep your furry companions safe yall.. I don't believe in a government who can't protect its citizens, of any origin and having legally worked so hard to get here, against illegal invaders.
