My cardiologist gave me the following tip about sugar/carb cravings: use L-Glutamine (either powder or the capsules that you can break open)…add to a water bottle and drink thru out the day (has no taste or texture) or if you have a sudden desire for sugar/carbs/alcohol open a capsule and put UNDER your tongue (or same amount in powder from container) and within 30 SECONDS the craving will disappear completely! Clinics have used L-Glutamine with alcoholics & drug addicts who are detoxing - he said you can’t take too much as it’s an antioxidant and just flushes out your system when you pee. I’ve found it really helps - it also helps when you have that “monkey mind chatter” regarding ANY addiction - takes you mind off the obsessive thinking!

I enjoy chocolate for the glorious creation that it is. Raw, dark, 90% 80%, enrobed nutmeats or coffee beans... rarely something as sweet as milk chocolate.... Years of keto or carnivore diet, enjoying a chocolate is as much a luxury of the soul as it is a collection of health giving minerals, polyphenols & magnesium & rich satisfying cocoa butter. It was NEVER about the insulin. ENJOY. YOUR CHOCOLATE 😋

The craving for sugar itself exists only on the tongue. The saliva activates ezymes, which stimulate the gut and pancreas response. To qwell the craving simply place a few bits of pink Himalayan salt on the tongue, and you will notice the craving will disappear in milliseconds.

This is why I ended up fasting to the point i didn't crave food in general.
Since I started eating/drinking whatever i like again, I definitely started to crave sweets again ..
then I over fast again and no more sweet cravings.. more salt cravings. So I take Celtic sea salt daily b4 distilled water.😊
More minerals, please.💦

Yeah, it's fun to have cheat meal days followed by ice cream.. but then I feel lethargic and overfull for days and crave to want to eat healthy/fast again.

Do some light & quick exercise, such as walking or even just marching in place for 2-5 minutes (it doesn’t require much) after you eat to lower your blood sugar and help stabilize your insulin levels.

Eventually, your insulin will get better, and the cravings will go away. ❤

I’ve been carnivore going on 8 months now. For the first 3 months I had sugar cravings. Only thing that helped was salty butter. Now though I have 0 sugar cravings. I don’t even think about sweet stuff anymore. It’s quite nice.

it also can be a sign that you have a high fungus or yeast overload as fungus and yeast feeds on sugar. It does not necessarily have to be insulin related.

Thank you for your explanation! I have been eating protein to satiety, but then craving something carb-y, and I couldn’t understand why. I could not have eaten another bite of meat, so I couldn’t understand why I had cravings for carbs immediately afterwards! This makes the mechanism for how this can happen very clear.

Woopooow! Never thought about it that way. Before I started out on carnivore about 10 years ago, I would constantly need sugar after a meal. If I tried to go bed without sugar, I would wake up with a strong craving or just not be able to sleep. I would rummage through the pantry and cabinets for Anything that had a little sugar in it. Even if I threw out all the candy and snack, some nights I would take a spoon and scoop out a spoonful of brown sugar... Just to be able to sleep. It felt like a real addiction.

Makes sense! There is nothing wrong with insulin itself. It’s crucial for survival. It’s what gets energy into cells. If you have insulin resistance, it means your body has had to make too much for too long and it’s not functioning right anymore. When I went low carb because of prediabetes, I felt awful at first. Now I feel much better! It does take time to adjust.

I allow myself a piece or two of dark chocolate and its enough to satisfy the craving. Much better for you than a bowl of ice cream with fudge sauce.
