Where I work, we don't just automatically send out updates. Corporate IT reviews them and tests them, and then releases them to one of our sites, then a couple more, then the rest.

The biggest issue here is businesses setting they're systems for auto update. The business should always have autoupdates turned off of every machine except for one IT test rig. If the update works fine then IT should manually push the update to other machines in groups.

Before Reagan, America enforced antitrust laws. Anytime a company gained 10% market share, a judge would break them up into a number of smaller companies.

Do you think this company would have fired all those QA people if they had real competition? Even if they made the same mistakes, a tenth as many computers would likely have been affected.

I was in IT for a fortune 100 company who rolled out an update without testing it. Two floors in HQ went blue screen and we thought that was a huge deal. IT is in a forever struggle with operations in many companies. Same thing applies for a software company. Sometimes someone upstairs wants to rush things along... I imagine the real story will leak out eventually.

LOL, wow CBS, just wow. For clarity, we're talking millions of endpoints globally were affected and it does require manual intervention depending on the implementation. I am so thankful I don't work in support anymore cuz this was a weekend killer.

This is why I turn off automatic updates on my home PC. Unfortunately, I had to fight with this all day at work today. I'm sure Crowdstrike will just say, "Oops, my bad, " but there needs to be some consequences in my opinion.

Where I work if we are having tech problems they want me to tell my customers that we are having updates, so I can't trust any company blaming an *update* for the problem. Updates are suppose to fix things, the update was nothing more than malware, the company Crowdstrike needs shut down and liquidated and those of us afflicted need compensated. You really think that a security company is going to be so upfront to admit they got hacked? In a couple of years we will hear this was a cyber attack, but for today while they can keep it covered the excuse is they don't test updates they just release it on their clients to test out for them....
