I had literally just finished watching this, pulled up YouTube and saw this review. I pretty much agree on all fronts. Is it groundbreaking? No. Is it a solid action thriller with a likeable lead, compelling villain, solid action sequences and real stakes? Absolutely. Listen to Dan, Netflix. Make more movies like this!

My only complaint about the acting is that Taron Egerton and Sofia Carson felt like they lacked chemistry.

That action scene you're talking about that came out of nowhere was the weirdest and most unexpected needle drop and accompanying action scene I think I've ever experienced. It was insane... like it felt like a completely different movie for that segment. I liked it.

So a better option than Kraven? Sold.

I watched CarryOn last night and really enjoyed it. Jason Bateman was a surprise, and I’m glad that they didn’t reveal his face right away. I learned to take him seriously early in the movie, so when they revealed his face, I didn’t think of him as the Jason Bateman that we would be used to. I was also able to engage because the movie gave us strong stakes and characters to care about, and though I was saying to myself early on that the villain’s plan and contingencies were completely ridiculous. B+ action movie, well worth a watch.

As a TSO myself, I enjoyed the movie. A lot of things Hollywood-ified, but it was entertaining.

To me, Jason Bateman's casting was not an odd choice. Anybody who seen him in the underrated thriller, "The Gift" should knew that he could pull of an unlikable bad guy so well. While I think Bateman is a popular actor that has a great acting skill and of course everybody loved him, his versatility is somehow kinda underappreciated

Perhaps Ozark helped Bateman become a believable threat in scenarios that don't rely on being physically imposing. He's a smart and sedate villain.

The lack of resolution for Dean Norris’ character was criminal. Very weird that they didn’t even acknowledge it even at the end

Carry-On was a lot of fun! Not perfect but a fun ride.

Sorry, but I disagree. This movie is a turd. I love a good action movie. This one broke the “immersion” too many times. A random detective suddenly in charge of all the operations at LAX? They decide to let the plane fly even though they don’t have any way to know the TSA guy is inside? There is a very convenient air tight phone booth in the cargo hold? And so many more.

I like the tone of the review though. It’s well produced. Like the movie.

Dan's comments at 4:00 are what so few people get about movies--it does not have to be logical, but it has to be logical within the world that the movie sets up, i.e. internally consistent. But it also cannot be so far-fetched that the world starts to fall apart. Suspension of disbelief is necessary for most movies, but lousy movies often are unaware that there are boundaries.

An insult to a second graders intelligence my brain literally hurt from the stupidity

I appreciate the point you made in the end about “turning off your brain” becoming an excuse for bad movies with little to no redeeming qualities.

Ok, the ML looks like a young T-1000. I mean, the likeness is uncanny. 😯

Good old enjoyable action thriller from the late 80s and early 90s, the only thing I didn’t like was the god awful CGI in that car fight sequence.

Dan. Thank you for this INCREDIBLE Review! We had a time building and rebuilding the old Nola Airport and we had atleast 350 to 500 extras a day for it!
Merry Christmas Dan

Jason Bateman was not an odd choice. He was a great choice and was able to bring his inner Ozark to this film
