Carry-On Pitch Meeting

Step inside the pitch meeting that led to Carry-On!

Netflix has been churning out movies for years, with a common critique being that they’re somewhat derivative of other movies. Well Carry-On is here to challenge that narrative by being a holiday action movie that takes place in an airport on Christmas Eve. Wait, that’s Die Hard 2. Well dang it.

Carry-On does raise some questions. Like how is Ethan never at his post? How does that Watcher guy manage to get the perfect line of sight from a parking garage? Did the Traveler’s entire plan rely on Ethan checking his phone while at work?

also worth noting that the detective effectively contributed nothing to stopping the guy

Her being in the airport, where she could have ran into secure room or literally anywhere there was security, and deciding to run outside had me crying internally

I want to get a job as a TSA worker at a major airport. I always thought it would be hectic, but this movie showed me that you really only have to check in about 2 travelers per hour. Seems cushy.

The excitement I had when I got a notification for a pitch meeting for a movie I have zero intention of watching.

1:50 THIS. During the first act, you see in the background Ethan's apparently ex-military coworker who is completely ignoring Ethan while Ethan's sweating bullets and acting suspicious as hell while muttering to himself, but then once Ethan gets his buddy fired later in the movie, suddenly, that same guy is all, "My keen observation and memory skills are telling me you did a bad thing. I've got my eye on you, bucko" for the back half of the movie.

Easily identifiable impersonations of Jason Bateman are tight!

Ah, perfect! I randomly saw the trailer for this movie, was pleasantly surprised to see it's a real trailer, then was interested enough to think to myself "I sure hope Ryan George does a Pitch Meeting of this". And now here it is. My day is saved and my pleasure is immeasurable.

Surprised that you didn’t mention how Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton’s characters had full on conversations in a completely empty LAX airport bathroom on Christmas Eve 💀

As a Brit, i was disappointed this wasn't a 60s style comedy full of innuendo and sexy women.

I love the catch-all explanation of how things work, "because", then all questions are answered.

My coworkers at TSA have been talking about this movie at work and laughing about how bad and unrealistic it is and I'm glad now Pitch Meeting has fully ended my curiosity.

The Traveler really needs to learn to keep his plans simple. The more people you need to rope into your plans the more likely things are to go sideways, especially if you're coercing them.

Carrion - a movie about vultures in an airport - well that sounds dangerous

Thought of so many plot holes when I watched this, without even mentioning the almighty detective :
1) the entire plot relying on a TSA agent agreeing to put in a random earpiece from a stranger without asking questions all while looking down at his phone for the precise timing of the message 2) the fact that he takes Mateo's boarding pass away from him to pass on a secret message to his colleague, the Traveller gets ahold of it after killing him but we never see Mateo retrieve it meaning he would have gone to his gate without a boarding pass 3) the entire movie emphasises that you can only get passed security with a weapon if you coerce someone, yet the Traveller passes security with a parachute, a gun and a poison dart to kill the agent (he wouldn't have had time to coerce someone else as he was talking to Ethan the entire time) 4) the Traveller goes from sitting at a bar before the bag check to killing an agent on the other side of the bag check in a matter of seconds, on the busiest day of the year 5) later on, how on earth can security conduct a targeted bag check knowing only people's names and not their faces ? This might be a thing in real life but wouldn't a random check require the check to be... random ? 6) with all the tools a cockpit has, the pilots would 100% be alerted if someone opened the luggage door during takeoff 7) even if Ethan diffused the bomb, this was kind of a suicide mission if you think about it, with there being no oxygen and freezing temperature in the hold at a certain altitude.
The list could go on... great video !
