Welcome here :)
We are grinding maniacs in this episode. We grind gel coat, and then grind gel coat some more and in between we talk about how it's going grinding gel coat.
And it is going well. We are making progress at a GREAT pace and are feeling excited to be uncovering a better concept map for the repairs ahead.
The first two days of grinding we carefully took off most of our gear inside the boat so that we wouldn't track dust onto the cockpit. We wanted to keep that area clean because it's where the dogs were hanging out. It didn't work well enough for how overly protective we are so we ended up finding an awesome dog sitter and sent them to get all the love and cuddles in a non-fiberglass environment. We missed them, but it did make it easier to take cool down breaks and made it possible for us to vent our space a bit better. Plus, the dog sitter had kids and our dogs LOVE kids.
Brett managed to find a full face respirator which was such a great find! Keep in mind this video was back in the days of complete PPE shortages. We were super excited for the full face set up. I figured out that wearing my n95 mask underneath my respirator added the extra layer of protection I needed to keep my lungs gel coat free.

Thanks for watching-

With love
The Evans'

Just found ur videos. Only just starting to watch. Currently on 7. But knows ur are in 90s. My experience was similar although smaller goal and definitely not as extensive a refurbish. I was/ am a pilot. Flew 20 yrs in US Navy. Some GA stuff. Up til I couldn’t pass medical. I started sailing and 7 yo and my entire life through 5 years ago, I have never been without sailboat. My dream on retiring from Navy was to sail East coast to Seattle area and then live aboard for some years exploring NW inside passage to Alaska. Bought used 44 Morgan ketch. And with help from different people took a year to test, fix, reinforce and learn prior to adventure. Did not intend to return to East coast. My wife was going to join me in grand adventure, however she was no way close to Jade’s learning and work ethic. Sailboats before and after she would sail, but the ketch scared her. Not sure why, they all sail the same. She was tool fetch, cook, cleaner as I worked on various systems. Since I was sailing off coast in areas of ships, the avionics or NAV equip I wanted included a radar w autopilot connected so I could see and make corrections from bunk. Furling on all three sails and all back to center console. Only deck requirement was anchor and windless and traveler. And occasional lost sheet. Or occasional spinnaker. Got very comfortable sailing even in iffy weather. But of course flying skills helped. Sailing is Bernoulli on your side. Cockpit center and completely enclosed, so could stay dry and when necessary heat area. Before days of GPS and chart navs, so lots of manual NAV. She had a shallow draft but full keel. Was sensitive to righting moment and added ballast to lower CG. I was one of those sailors who was thrilled to dip gunnels. But not on ketch. Outfitting took 6 mo. Then ready to go. Departing Annapolis with test run to Nantucket and then south to fight Gulf Stream. No issues of consequence (there is only little things) to Nantucket. Then adventure began. Too tall for ICW, so only used to reprovision or duck in or when in IMC. Southbound planned to be in Caribbean til weather favorable to next leg. Loved sailing down coast. 30000# and added 4000# extra. Great trip to Bahamas and then VI and started down the islands. But season was hurricane and wife wasn’t going out if anything within 1000 Mi. So we spent hurricane seasons in Windward and Leewards. Well hurricane something came up east coast and devastated Charleston. Boats piled up in clump with the cherry on top a 44 Morgan Ketch. Newspapers in USA used photo w ketch upright on top of pile. The owner of it began to search for replacement and found us through some means. Offered me almost double her value. So adventure ended. Planned on trying again, but instead spent time sailing charters in Greek islands. Got another small 30’ sailboat, but original plan collapsed. Your story brought back memories. I must say that I was impressed with u dropping keel and damage inspection by removing cabin. I know boat had bulb keel and grounded and I will probably find out in a later video, but torked the hull. I have sail Bens in Europe. So generally familiar w yours. U had a crew that would and could do it all. I did not. No regrets. Enjoyed the partial adventure. Would have loved to have plotter and mobile phone. In islands and connected to shore, had a phone line and A/C. And definitely needed. During 1st year while learning, up and down Chesapeake Bay. Only issue I had was Perkins sometimes was resistant. And my wife also did crab pot watch. One time leaving at mouth of Potomac, she wanted to try to take her out. I said sure and did crab pot watch. Well only time we grabbed one and wrapped it around shaft. 1/2 day diving to free it. My job to see not hers. On calm seas if I tweaked radar I could sometimes get a quick return on crab pots, but eyes much better. I enjoyed sailing at night. One year I was ferrying a boat from CT down to Fl. Off coast. Year of Halley’s Comet. Which made for great assist in maintaining track.

The internet hive mind can solve this problem. Waiting to see what the damage looks like inside the matrix using a fiber optics camera. Maybe look before it gets too dusty in there. I love your positive attitudes. 😘
