This deal was in the works for a couple of years. The NBA commissioner talked about this deal extensively last year when asked about the future of WNBA basketball and the new collective bargaining agreement. Also, the deal is a bad deal, 2.2B over 11 years (NBA got 76B) that barely pays the bills and they are looking to expand, the WNBA will be back in the red with no money for raises. That’s only 180M per year, with the charter flights they are on schedule to lose 50M per year, when the NBA stops subsidizing them, they still will be a barely functioning league.
