It’s quite a cheat. So, I have mixed feelings about it.
The lady Will kept seeing didn’t just fit a vague description of MacKenzie. She was dressed in the same clothes, sitting in the same seat, and appeared before and after Mac did - maybe even multiple times.

Best head-canon is that it WAS the Medina…but it caused him to hallucinate the stranger’s presence, not Mac’s.
