Antidepressants helped me too but what they took away was not worth the price. I wish I could go back in time and stop myself.

Love this. More reaction videos like this, please. It's so helpful to hear your high expertise and your voice pierce through the sea of well-intentioned but uninformed doctors, like a shining lighthouse to help guide us to safety.

I’ve known a lot of people who took them for two or three months, and then they quit because they suck they do absolutely nothing but make you numb

1990s "We know" 2023 "We are still learning" 🤦
The sell was better than the product.

They were relentless on Twitter with these, blaming shaming and criticising vulnerable patients who dared to speak up and say they’d been harmed. I’m trying to recover from protracted withdrawals and that heap of abusive shit lumped on top

They worked so well for me only took them 2 times per week and everytime i did they balanced my mood and i stopped after less than a month because i got better and decided i can heal the rest on my own, the only side effect i experienced was nausea when i took it and the need to throw up but other than that they helped me better than anything else i tried, the diversity of opinions on this is quite disturbing

Doctor, what are your thoughts: the risk of developing PSSD is estimated at 0.46%,

see: Ben-Sheetrit, J., Hermon, Y., Birkenfeld, S. et al. Estimating the risk of irreversible post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD) due to serotonergic antidepressants. Ann Gen Psychiatry 22, 15 (2023).

This is a silent global catastrophe... Who in their right mind would consent to a small chance to destroy your entire life? I honestly don't think anyone could accept this risk, fully appreciating the severity of what PSSD actually is.

"Hey we're still learning how they work and permanently castrate and they dehumanize human beings, but depression sucks so it's all good!"

They aren't effective is the thing. They doesn't work any better than a placebo

Doctors need to stop not adhering to informed consent for the patient

if i hear "they can be life changing " I just imagine a robot saying it. Its such an industry line. "hey kids are you depressed? would you also like to never have an orgasm again ? how about if you stop loving your mom and your dog and your kids because you cant feel love anymore? what about intrusive suicidal thoughts? Would you like that? These medications can be life changing!" Its like not a lie exactly, theyll change your life, but...

I took wellbutrin for 2 weeks to stop smoking and by the end of the first week I was like, yeah I should kill myself. For sure. I should have done it yesterday. I wouldn't have to decide where to go for dinner if I had hung myself in the bathroom like I should have done. I wasn't even depressed to start out with or when I thought I should kill myself but if I would have kept taking it I would have ended up jumping off the building. Would rather smoke, you live longer.

Rather … do exercise, meditate etc. I kicked the anti depressants and found myself. You go Doc!

Or the “If you broke a bone, you’d get a cast. Depression is the same, so you take medicine for it to get you through - it’s not permanent”. That’s what my brother was told. Years later he is still on the antidepressant - so the “to get you through was a lie.”

He’s right about that, but at this point if I go one day without it, my brain buzzes. How do you get off of these things? Ugh

I won’t take them and think they are completely bunk, but the majority of people are on them and support their use religiously, so I have to keep my opinions to myself unless I want to get banished off the island.

It's fine if this dude doesn't like SSRI's, but there are other types of antidepressants, such as SNRI's, some opioids like Tapentadol/Nucynta, which are powerful NRI's, TCA's, etc. And you might be prescribed an antidepressant to treat insomnia, migraines, bulimia, or other conditions that are not clinical depression.

I'm okay with differing takes, and maybe a Facebook reel doesn't do this man's opinion justice, but I'm not finding a compelling counterargument for why antidepressants shouldn't be taken if prescribed.
