Breville Grinder Burr Settings and Adjustments

*NOTE*: The newer Breville Barista Pro machines come with updated Baratza burrs. The default setting on these new burrs seems to be more suitable for espresso and most likely will not require a burr adjustment right out of the box. So don't adjust the burr until or unless you need to!!

I tried every grade of grinding for a month, but your video helped me to get the perfect extract of 18 grams, 36 grams in 25 seconds from the Sage machine. Thank you🌺

This video has been a revelation! Was so frustrated with wasting beans and not being able to achieve the correct pressure. After following this, first shot pulled was at 9bar and around 30s! Legend!

Thanks for this, I've watched a few videos on the topic but most aren't clearly shot or explained. I got my grinder used 2 years ago and was having issues getting it to grind small enough for espresso even at 1-3 grind size depending on the coffee. You have a nice relaxing vibe in the video too :)

Thank you so much for the help with that. I’ve been trying to get my pressure back for a while now. Really love the direct and easy to follow videos as well. Thanks again

This is so well done! helped me panic less when I saw my espresso running out so fast - and reset the burrs to 4 from 6. Will go for a grind setting 6 or 7 and try a few shots.

I just changed my burr setting up to 6 & my outer setting to 5. I’m still playing with my breville. Not going to lie it was really frustrating trying to get the right shot. But since I’ve been following you, I started playing with my machine more. I don’t want to give up on it just yet lol

Yes, this was the exact question I had (and also just posted on another video of yours). Thank you for this information. Your channel is great at helping out absolute beginners, of which I am one. :)

Thanks for your video. I've been trying to figure out what was wrong as all of a sudden the lowest grind setting wasn't enough. Then your video solved it quickly. Thanks again!

I bought the Pro and had to go down to a setting of 2 and still it flowed too fast. I didn't know the grinder could be adjusted. Thanks!

Thank you so much!! I have only had my Barista Pro for a few months and I am frequently at a grind setting of 2 or 1 and still not getting the pull I wanted. I was getting disappointed in the grinder until I found this video and your channel! I can’t wait to get my range adjusted!❤

I upgraded about 2 weeks ago because I had this problem with my old BE, even after replacing and adjusting the burr. I still don't get a consistent shot and I think I will have to step the burr down, will try 5 and play with the grind size. Not sure if a brand new grinder (Baratza burrs version) should give me inconsistency problems. Sometimes I feel like returning it and get a Baratza grinder to use with my BE. I do love the steam wand.

WOW! You saved me HOURS of stuffing around. I've just upgraded my coffee rig the Dual Boiler and the Smart Grinder Pro. I would have NEVER tried this combinations and it would've taken me a truck load of beans before I stumbled across these setting.

Mine is at 3 for the burr and 8 for the grind, but I suspect that the humidity today is killing the beans. In winter (and outside of the cyclone ripping down the coast making things muggy) I'm suspecting that 7 might be the more common setting. Now to get my wife's Decaf sorted and I will be in heaven!

Thanks for your video, I just buy the Breville Grinder and leave the default setting of Burr at 6 and the Grinder size of 6. A little bit disappointed at the beginning when compare with the hand grinder 1Zpresso K-Ultra as the espresso come out too fast. After watching your video I try to adjust the burr size to 4 and Grinder size of 6. Hope I will have a better shot

hi ! incredibly helpful video ! I hope you can provide your insight on a question I have : I have the sage ( breville ) barista express and I use only light roast, what should my burr setting be and what grind setting should it be at ?

I use 13 to 15, typically I use it at 14 with no issues though. this is also with it set to the burr setting it came set to. I personally love the machine. These shots I pull are beautiful and they taste great. Not too acidic or sour. Full bodied. When cleaning the burr I see the numbers and knew it could be adjusted, was not sure how. So I appreciate the video and now I know. I also believe that the roast and beans are super vital. Having tried a handful of shops, local and not, I have found a hidden gem and their beans are 1/2 of the magic I feel like

What to do about slow grinding times for 18g? My grinder takes 40s to grind those 18g of coffee. Note: Coffee is grinded to perfect size, takes about 30-35s to extract 36g of coffee.
