We Booked A Budget Ski Trip to Eastern Europe (worth it?)

Today we're back in our 88th country, the beautiful and highly underrated country of Bulgaria!

We traveled to Bulgaria as part of our Southeastern Europe trip in June 2022 (also visited Romania and Moldova) and now we're back for a very different kind of adventure - hitting the slopes😎⛷️

Neither of us have skied in over a decade, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Also, most people don't know that Bulgaria has skiing, or even mountains at all, so we're so excited to share our experience from our 3 days in Bansko!

Bulgaria was our 88th country🌍

We flew into the capital Sofia and spent the night before driving down to Bansko ski resort in our rental car. There are also buses available, but we always appreciate the flexibility of having a car. The drive takes around 2 hours and takes you past Rila National Park, which we visited and hiked in on our last visit in 2022. On our previous trip, we also visited Plovdiv, which was probably our favorite stop in Bulgaria!

I’m off to Pamporovo for the 20th time in 2 weeks. It’s one of my favourite ski destinations. I’ve skied all over but somehow I always find myself back in Bulgaria. Lovely people, fab food and lots of lovely snow. My first ski trip was in Borovets in 1995! I’ve loved it ever since ❤

I was at Bansko for first half of February. It was first time for me ( I am skiing from more than 20 years) to have 12 days in a row, .to have perfect weather - lot of nice snow, cold up to minus 22 in the morning, and no positive temperatures during the day, calm, and without single cloud. Almost two weeks! Perfect! Probably I will not have such luck anytime soon...

So happy to see you enjoy my home country. A lot of the local food is also vegan, like bean stew, lentil stew, grilled potatoes, salads, grilled veggies all those tavern types have them. Even if it's not on the menu, many restaurants would be happy to accommodate you with. So you know for your next visit. Lots of positive vibes <3

Bansko is probably the most expensive winter resorts in Bulgaria. We have other that are also very enjoyable. The big benefit in Bansko is the mineral springs. SPA day is a must after a long day in the mountains.

Well, guys :) You've posted this 5 days ago. 6 days ago it snowed so much across the country, that surely, you would have gotten your wintery panoramic view from the top of the hill. Winters are becoming more and more warm, and snow in the flat lands is not what it used to be like when I was a child. But still, I'm glad you got to ski on snowy slopes! Come back some time again soon :)
