It is a fabulous pond! I have to say though, as a 70 year old woman I dug a turtle pond with a shovel with a hella less whining

I’m definitely loving content like this. I have a turtle and someday hope to build her an outdoor pond like this when I move away from the north.

I don’t think it is overkill. I have seen turtles climb out of some pretty good enclosures. Good job 👍🏼

I like it! It inspires me to try something like that one of these days. Like you, I always assumed the toitles were better climbers than people gave them credit for, so I never attempted the "no fence" fence.

Yep. if they aren't gone yet, they will be ( they will try there hardest to get out. But if too difficult to go back in, they will leave the area ).. I have three adult sliders. and I gave up trying to rock the entire parameter to prevent them from getting out. because they are crafty climbers. and if they keep trying. you'll find them on there back. So when the females want to lay eggs. they need land. if they can't get out of the pond. they will not stop trying, which can lead to injury whether it be from trying to climb out, or from not being able to lay there eggs, which can lead to being bound up. then off to the vet. I learned that when a female was out running around. they just wanted to lay there eggs and they would go right back into the pond. So I opened a door way. we let them go freely during the day. and they always know where the opening is as long as you don't pick them up and move them after they have already walked out on there own. we are going on 4 years now. all happy. and yes. they are protected from predators. I cover the pond every night with a wood grate cover until my new custom remote lifting patio cover is done. Nice looking pond though. but I'd suggest a fence of some kind. I'm building a multiple galvanized post parameter approx 14-16in tall, then will string stainless cable horizontal in a spacing of 1.5-2in to look like a cable rail fence or a Jurassic park enclosure. then the gazebo will remotely lower until it contacts the top of the posts and seals them off at night from predators. the reason for the fence now. is because we now have a tortoise roaming around the yard. can't have him falling into the pond.

Oof! Had to hand set all of those, what happened to that machine? Did someone forget the straps? Great work guys!

What about predators? Even if the turtles can't get out, predators can get in while they are basking

Turtles are really awkward trying to climb on land. That being said I have two that hate each other in a 6 foot tank with a divider and once in awhile they can magically make there way over to the other side to attempt to kill the other. Im moving one to a pond im currently building. Looks like plenty of wall to trap them here but I’d always make it twice as hard as I think it needs to be.

If they need to where would they lay their eggs?

Sorry, but they need to get out of the water and dry out and that lousy little tree branch isn't sufficient.

Too small, no place to walk around, no space for fishes so it will become mosquito and frog hole. Poor turtles. You do not understand a thing about turtles.
