When I was a kid back in the 90s, I was with my sister down at our high school’s track in the summer. In the 100 degree weather, we found a baby snapping turtle on the track dirt. My sister picked it up and put it inside her bike water bottle to keep it cool and provide water for it. By the way, we would later find out the track dirt was condemned. The thing somehow survived. My sister put it inside her iguana tank (her iguana had died just a few months prior) and the turtle lived happily for a while. But my cat, Batley (Eureeka’s castle reference) ended up snatching it out of the tank and killing it. lol.

Bro those are invasive. Goodluck to your pond and the nearby ecosystem.

When I was a child of about 5 I used to play in a creek by my grandparents house, I caught minnows and crawdads every day, but one day I
caught a bonus….a baby turtle. It didn’t dawn on me until years later that it was probably a snapping turtle. Every day I’d take my bounty
home, and every morning my bucket would be empty, I’m pretty sure my grandpa took all of my little critters back to the creek. The day I caught the tiny turtle I was so excited I ran barefoot to the house to show everyone, my Mother took one look at me and asked where
my shoes were, she had told me not to get them wet, so I took them off. She warned me that they had better be there when I went back.
They weren’t. I got in trouble. 😅😅😅😅😅

I always release them in the swamp with sons of leaf cover. That way birds and bass can’t get them. Unfortunately frogs can still get them. I try to keep them for a month in a controlled semi-wild environment, so their shells harden first.

For a moment, I thought he would say that they ate each other.

They are still in the pond. Turtles dig (from under water) a chamber & return there to eat, & live. Right along the banks.
