Conscious Child Choking

If a child is choking and conscious, signs include looking panicked, blue color around the lips, and the inability to talk, cough, or breathe. The child may do the universal choking sign with hands around their throat. Ask if the child needs help. Get to the level of the child by kneeling or sitting, and raise their elbows. Place one hand with thumb tucked in against the abdomen, above the bellybutton, and grab your fist with the other hand. Perform abdominal thrusts until the object is clear or the child becomes unconscious.

My little brother just choked on bacon, and I’m 100% certain this is the video my health teacher showed to us at the beginning of the year. He really stressed out what to do and honestly really glad he did. Didn’t think much of it but I really reacted quickly and everything turned out fine, I’m just shocked and thankful. Literally just walked off the piano to check on food because I knew my mom was cooking before I got on the piano and the instant I looked at the pan I heard my little brother choking or coughing. Honestly, what would’ve happened if I had not gotten off the piano?

Sibling Vlogs, I had a good friend that was elderly choke on a meatball in front of me and even though he was choking I wasn't sure if he could breath until I asked him. when he nodded yes we where certain at that point that he needed the Heimlich maneuver. We got the meatball up just as he began to go unconscious. I was trained in the military to do this but I was surprised that at the moment it happened I just wasn't sure if he was really choking. I am glad I asked. I didn't want to do something that might hurt his frail body unless I was sure.
