Plus, Valve’s suddenly talking about the ASUS ROG Ally. What’s that about? All of this (and a whole lot more) in this double wide, double deep installment of Linux Gaming News! We also touch on the new STAR WARS Bounty Hunter Remake, Humble's CAPCOM Summer 2024 bundle that offers over 40 games for just $30, a new update for ChimeraOS, the Steam Hardware Survey for July 2024, Ethan 'Flibitijibibo' Lee and FNA's completion of their DirectX integration, and Decky Loader putting some Steam Decks into a boot loop.

Once Portal 3 releases, my life will be complete and I can peacefully pass away.

Half-life 3 might be a bit fast assumption. A new Half-life is already a great news !

Been using Fedora for the last couple of months. So nice to be free of windows jank. All the hardware I buy now has to be well supported in linux which helps make a smoother transition.

The code name being HLX makes me think maybe they'll call it Half-Life X.

The X makes it sound more badass plus it means Valve doesn't count to 3.

A friend of mine just received a Deadlock invite today. He is a TF2 veteran with 1400+ hours in it so Valve seems to be inviting testers with a lot of experience.

Can’t wait to turn my Ally into a superior Ally Deck

The original steam machines were supposed be provided by third party vendors. Valve had to rethink that and create their own handheld for it to finally work, but I can see them bringing back third party hardware support. So SteamOS everywhere finally. The way they price the deck is not like their earning a lot from there, better to have their store in every handheld.

Running Debian 12 bookworm w/ Gnome + SteamOS on my deck :). Also have a desktop PC that's currently connected to PC however dueto needing replace mobo, the deck is use mostly now to handle gaming on the TV. Thanks, Gardiner for your coverage inthis space!

Tyler McVicker always emphasizes that most, if not all, of what he says about any Valve leak is _purely_ speculative.
Your use of "supposedly" may mislead some people watching.

Anyway, absolutely amazing if true.

The rog Ally thing is just steam input. Valve adds improved support for other controllers all the time, and rog Ally users use Steam, so yeah.

Sure, I'll feed engagement
My deck is currently running Bazzite (gnome) and my laptop I've got running Pop!_OS because I'm hyped for COSMIC

In regards to the support for the Ally keys, It's probably due to Bazzite, ChimeraOS, and other projects like them.

Regarding Chimera OS, who are ShadowBlip?? They make OpenGamepadUI, InputPlumber, Powerstation, and a lot of other projects.

I might be one of the few out there, but I would be extremely sad if Valve didn't make a VR game in the Half Life Universe, building on the incredible work they did in HL: Alyx.

Oh man, I'm pretty excited about the fix for external displays staying dark, but I'm not switching to beta just to have it. Glad they finally got around to addressing it.

I currently use Bazzite on my htpc, and I love it. Have an amd rx 570 card too, so I love seeing that they finally found a solution to the problem those cards had.

I have a HP ProBook running W11, a Dell Inspiron running Vanilla OS, and a MacBook Air running MacOS 14.5

Using a combination of Synergy, networking, USB-C docks, a monitor with KVM functionality, and an Elgato HD60X, it all works together as one machine.

I wish there was a modern equivalent to x11 forwarding which was performant, though, because the one thing I can’t do that I would like to be able to do on rare occasions is have remote application support, so I can open any application on any screen, but as it stands I can open almost any modern program but it’s limited to the screen it is installed on
