The Sound 584,287,000 Players Heard (Valve)

It is no secret, that Valve as a game company has claimed its kingpin's spot in the gaming industry. But by far, out of the whole history of gaming, the sound of Valve's mascot's intro is perhaps one of the most influential and impactful that the gaming industry has ever seen. But, what actually is that sound, and who is the bald man that we have all seen in Valve games?

some clarifications, since some info in the video is false:

sorry for the confusion and poor research (once again), hope that the video is still enjoyable to watch.

The "Valve theme" came from Half-Life 1. It plays in Chapter 12: "Surface Tension". But it is titled "Harzardous Environments".

The truly scary moment was when they changed the intro to have the man start turning around, with Portal 2 no less.
Just imagine for a moment that you're thinking you're firing up an innocent puzzle game late at night, when suddenly, after years of seeing the man not turn, suddenly turns. Portal 2 turns into a horror vibe all of a sudden lol

Valve in 1998: open your eyes.
Valve in 2004: open your mind
Valve now: open your wallet

I feel the track brings a bigger impact to me because I know that it's from HL1, hearing it in HL2 when I get in the suit I just get this feeling of "Yeah, now I'm back in business"

I had a slow PC a while back, and i was excited to see that TF2 was officially free-to-play. I decided to download the game and then play it because I've watched a lot of gameplay, and it looked cool. So anyway, after waiting for a couple of minutes for it to load i thought it didn't work, i decided to click the button to launch the game 6-7 times to see what happens, and in a couple minutes i finally saw the TF2 logo appear on my taskbar. And without knowing, it turned Fullscreen. I almost screamed when i saw a black bald head with a valve attached to it and play a sound that almost gave me a heart attack, i thought i seriously was hacked lmao. (I was about 9 or 10 when this happened)

Minor(ish) thing I wanted to point out:
The sound doesn't originate from Half-Life 2. The track "Hazardous Environments" in Half-Life 2 is a returning track from the first Half-Life game where it's used in the chapter Surface Tension. A number of music tracks from Half-Life got reused for Half-Life 2, actually.

Other than that, though, great video!

The first video game I ever played was half life 2. My dad had a computer setup in the basement and I would sit down there and watch him play. That was how we bonded for the most part, that and falling asleep on the couch to Tom n Jerry. So when one day when I was like 3 years old he just suddenly asked, "you wanna try?". And that is what sparked my love of gaming.

i know the valve intro sound specifically from left 4 dead. Im only 17 this year, yet i feel like one of those older people who say ‘back in my time’. this sound is just so nostalgic to me as i grew up playing it for hours on end, and i still play both left 4 dead games every now and then, to this day.

People need to give Kelly Bailey more credit for the amazing soundtrack he made.

I grew up during the golden age of Portal 2. That'll always be where my mind goes when I hear that glorious sound.
