New York State would not help certify me to become a teacher even though I had substitute taught for 7 years in two districts and was the most requested substitute teacher In those two districts. In fact, I was off and given long-term sub gigs because I never called off, had fantastic attendance and parents liked me very much. I never once gave a detention, either. The Cuomo teacher certification people in my region said I had to go back to school for 4 years at a cost of $230, 000. They said my 4yr bachelor's of science degree in political science and my PhD in aeronautics did not cover any of the teaching requirements in the state of New York and I had to start from scratch. This, after being federally certified with 11 years of experience as a "school teacher" for commercial pilots, airline pilots and test pilots. I have visited 37 countries and speak three languages.
I'm a white guy who At the time was 42 years old.. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
