As my Gen X aunt said: "Being fed good food every day is a right. Being served food you LIKE is a privilege."

My boomer dads line was “this ain’t a restaurant “. It’s true

As a woman raised by boomers, my options were Eat or Starve. We didn't have the money to be wasting food. There were no other options.

Millennials: "Then fix your own dinner, I'm clocking out" 😂😂

Hi! First of all, sorry for my English. I'm a Catalan woman.
I'm a Gen X mom 🙋🏻‍♀️ with a Gen Z daughter.
My daughter always thanks to me for cooking, even she doesn't like what I cooked.
It's a way to show respect for my effort.
It's our responsability to educate our children to have these values.
Greetings from Catalonia! 🤗

Lol, I'm GenX, but I was raised by Grandparents who lived through the Depression. My dinner menu choices were Take It or Leave It. Mawmaw did not play.

Gen X here. Raised 🙋🏾‍♀️ by a boomer mom and when I was about 7 and I saw once again we were having fish with spaghetti and I had the audacity to say why? It was like the needle on the record scratched to a halt!!! She said what did you say? I hesitated. She asked again, what did you say? So I meekly (and quite frankly, scared to death) repeated myself and was quickly told, "then you won't have nothing to eat, go to bed!" That was the first and last time I questioned her culinary choices! LEGEND HAS IT, I'M STILL HUNGRY! 🤣😂🤣 God rest her soul!

I had Depression era parents too. If I ever used the word "starving", my mom would lecture me about what starving meant. Also, once visiting my grandparents, my dad was talking to me about some home made pillow cases. I remember he said, when sheets wear out in the middle, you cut the sheet into quarters and make pillow cases out of it. I stood there looking confused and he said, "that's right. You have never seen a sheet wear out in the middle. Today, people just throw things away. During the depression, you had to be resourceful."

Yep! Food is a necessity. Your mother cooking for you is a gift!

Hilarious!
I'm a young Boomer...
Ma: You can go to bed now and it'll
be waiting for you in the morning.
😳
And it was...😂😂😂😂

My mom was a boomer, and her favorite lines were...
1. When we were little kids: "Don't leave that table till it's gone."
2. When we were teens: "Fine, don't eat it then, I ain't cooking nothing else. You can go to bed hungry, your choice. And wash that plate before you leave this kitchen." 😂

The last mom's answer was THE answer! You don't like it, .. lump it! If we EVER answered mom like the first one, .. we would not live to see the next day...

“It’s harder to sleep when you hungry.” Cold world.

I'm a Boomer, my parents were the Silent Generation, both were children during the depression. You ate what was on the table or you went hungry. Once the kitchen was closed, there was no going in there. I was lucky that if I didn't like something, I didn't have to eat it. Most of my friends didn't have that choice. Neither of my parents would make us eat something we didn't like, my mother said meal time should be pleasant and she didn't want any kind of tension during the meal. Anything I put on my plate had to be eaten though. Fortunately, we never had liver because my father hated it. I used to work in an office next to a cafeteria. On the days they made liver, my coworkers would ask me if I was alright because I would turn pale and almost pass out from the smell. Thanks dad!

Boomer here, and my mom would have said "well you can call someone who cares" "eat it or not, that's what you're getting "...learned to cook for myself when I was 12 and never argued with her about food again..😂❤ Love and miss ya mom!

The millennial response was SCARILY accurate. Nearly verbatim. Offer leftovers, offer sandwich, give up. 19 yr age gap with youngest siblings and I swear I say some variation of this script every day. Especially the “Then I don’t know what to do for you…” like it’s my catchphrase 😂💀

Works for everything. You in a bad mood? You got a headache? Offer a couple solutions then you’re on your own. I’m not here to listen to complaints from someone who doesn’t want to fix the situation 🙂

I’m a French boomer and my mom was raised during the german occupation. She has been starving and for her, food was too precious to be wasted. So she cooked the meal and we were obliged to finish our plate and if we didn’t finish it for dinner by example we had to finish the plate at breakfast, lunch, dinner or the day after and so on. We quickly learned to eat everything with a smile. 😀
