Honestly great advice! I sprained my ankle yesterday in a spill (off road). I was wearing Alpinestars Tech 3 boots, but they were too loose. I was using my toes to break and shift. Weight of the bike fell on my foot and the boots were not tight enough to prevent movement.

Ok, did it with my trusty open toe sandals, feels great, natural. I'm gonna use this tip on my nude adventure trip with the 1200gs

Thank you, I’ve only driven a dirt bike on a track once and I was wondering what it was I could’ve been doing differently when shifting and breaking, I also have a really big boot size and I can barely feel the gear shifter so I tend to skip a gear.

Thank you so much!!! I just got my first pair of MX boots (I’m just learning to ride) and I crashed into one of my mom’s neighbors greenhouses because I couldn’t figure out how to maneuver in three stiff things! It’s so much easier in my vans 😂

It also makes sense to raise the shifter head by rotating the entire assembly on the splined shaft upwards somewhat so it is easier to slip your toe under the shifter to shift to the next gear, although you will need to lift your foot a little higher to downshift but you learn to lift and then let gravity do the rest.

thank you! nobody talks about this and i just got a 701sm and, coming from street nakeds, i was wondering why the shift and brake pedals were so freaking high up. i knew it had something to do with off road boots but i had no idea they were so stiff you couldn't move your ankle. even if a don't wear mx boots i'm gonna learn to use the commands with my whole leg like this because, even if i have my mechanic adjust the levers lower, when i sit very up the saddle to load the front better, i will never be able to use them like on a road bike

Good advice! I’m pretty sure I used to just move my heel to the outside of the peg to shift. Always wondered how the hell you’re supposed to rock your foot in those stiff-ass boots

Is it normal to feel unbalanced when doing emergency stops in MX boots? I've fallen twice when trying to do emergency stops while on the way to a destination because it feels like I have no grip or balance on the ground
