Hope you all enjoy the review. I'm enjoying reading the comments! Glad to see that some owners have said the major glitches in the infotainment have been fixed with updates. I'd be interested to know if people have any more success with 'Hello, ID' after a while.
As I say in the review, in some ways the ID.3 feels very luxury in the quiet detachment and simplicity that is the driving experience. I also completely understand that for a lot of people, cars are just transport (I honestly don't expect every car to be wriggling with feedback!). But, for me, there was something a bit soulless about the ID.3 (and I don't think it's just because it's an EV) that I simply hadn't experienced before. It feels like a big step on the way to autonomous driving. Anyway, as someone has said below, here's to the GTI version of the ID.3!

We already figured this out. There called buttons, and they work fairly well.

Refreshing to see such an honest review

Maybe the charging speed was 139 miles of range per hour? Just a thought..

That intro was brilliant. Good mid 20th century impression.

”Every drive is forgettable. It’s so easy to drive that I have no interest of driving it” That’s what the general population is looking for.

“Like that doctors telephone box” 😂. Fantastic 80s intro.

*that white steering wheel is going to look like a horrid grey blotchy mess after a few months.*

Straight roads followed by roundabouts, followed by straight roads, followed by roundabouts. Must be Milton Keynes ;)

129 miles per hour while charging is presumably the number of miles of estimated range being added per hour of charging, Henry...

In an almost eerie kind of way, this felt like an episode of Black Mirror to me..

There is a huge discrepancy between a real world user and a performance user: this review is a perfect example of it.

How ever did we manage to change radio station in the 80's, thankyou VW for making it look so much easier!

Another excellent review Henry. I hope Chris Harris gets you on the Collecting Cars podcast soon, it would be great to hear about your wider automotive world experiences 👍👍👍

“Hello ID” works perfect for me. I never open the rear windows as a driver and the kids have their own switches in the back. Best parts about the car is the ride, interior space and ease of driving. We love ours so much and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Hi Henry. We have an iD3 (Wife's car). Thanks for the honest review. I think you pretty much summed it up fairly. I do find it so easy to drive that I find myself borrowing it just to pop out to pick up a take away or a quick short journey. So easy to drive, park etc. a white goods it does very well if not best choice for the EVO triangle. Certainly much much easier doing everyday than my M2 or Defender. It fits into our family life very well and like all EV's, costs virtually nothing to run vs petrol/diesel. I also have those SW glitches and gave up with the voice commands. There is a big SW update coming soon to fix that plus Apple Car Play etc. I personally wish we'd bought the Yaris GR as was the top of my list being a petrolhead but my wife wanted an EV. You can get fantastic discounts on VW's (inc. iD3) at the moment hence Tesla 3 & Polestar 2 dropped off the list. All real world stuff and we're happy with our iD3 for the boring everyday. Keep up the great work on the channel Sir. Loved that retro intro BTW :-)

You and Hello-ID deserve your own show! I’ll pay to watch the entire season!

I love that drive towards Newton Blossomville Henry did in this video. If I ever go back to the office they’re lovely roads to chuck a car down after a busy day.

I've never heard Henry so worried, concerned and annoyed about a car before. I can't believe it got the speed so wrong. A car should not do that, EVER!

I've had my ID.3 for a month now and luckily it does not suffer from the 1st edition quirks. I do like driving it and it is receiving over the air updates so I think it will improve over time like the Tesla. The ID.3 is not a "fun car" and I have a mini electric for that, but as a family car, which you get into and drive for the all daily stuff it is great. So easy to start, foot on brake, turn the control to D and you're off, all your previous settings are saved so no need to start faffing around to adjust anything. Is it perfect? - no, but then nothing is! It has an app which allows you to switch on an off the charging and allows you to set the climate settings, while you have breakfast before you drive, so no frozen windows. In other words it's an easy car to live with.
