Sadly the 1996 heavy design wasn't the look that Valve was going for, and was scrapped, leaving us with the design we have today.

I kinda imagine all mercenaries with this type of designs dusky, dupe and creepy.
Probably the cosmetics like Pootis Bird wouldn't never have existed and TF2 wouldn't have been as popular nowadays by general culture.
