When you think of the 90’s R&B sound, a group that probably comes to mind is Hi-Five. The group seemed destined to be prominent figures of the New Jack Swing era, especially after the release of their 1990 chart-topping single, “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game).” Although they blessed us with five studio albums and continued releasing music well into the 2000s, the group suffered multiple setbacks.

I have never saw so many tragedies in ONE group. That’s insane.

I remember this group and the terrible tragedies that happened. Tony’s voice was so beautiful and his death really saddened me. Rest in peace to all who passed away 🙏🏾🕊

I grew up with Tony’s first cousins. We all loved and sheltered Tony. He was so very talented but being on the road proved to be tragic! He was just a kid with talent who wanted to sing! He is Dearly loved and missed. RIP!

I don't think we will ever get to experience a time in the music scene, where soulful, musical bands and/ or groups rule the airwaves, like it was in the 70's, 80's and the 90's. My heartfelt condolences go out to the remaining members of the Hi-Five band and their families.

P.S. That "She's Playing Hard To Get" joint was🔥🎶🎵🎼

Man the tragedy this group faced from Tony Thompson dying of an overdose.. One member actually killing someone and another becoming paralyzed (and he just passed away (rip) is just so much considering they brought so much joy.. Unconditional love and quality time is STILL in rotation....so sad but their music will live on forever... When r&b was R&B... good days..

I still love their music! They do not get the props that they deserve. They bridged that gap from the 80's to the 90's for groups.

Rest In Peace to Tony Thompson 💔. His first and only debut album is a classic.

Tony Thompson from Hi-Five and Dino Conner from H-Town If these 2 brothers would’ve lived I truly believe their groups would’ve carried on and would be here today. Hi-Five seems “cursed” and I truly pray for all of them. Damn I miss good RnB!!!

I can listen to them all day. I watched their Unsung episode and wasn't aware of how much they've been through💔 a disturbing pattern I'm noticing with groups/solo artists from the 90s is their contracts sucked! So many greedy people in the music industry. Hopefully it has gotten better over the years.

I will always remember Hi-Five as 5 young teenagers starting out in the music industry and blowing us away with their number one hit "I like the way (the kissing game)" followed by "She's playing hard to get" R.I.P to those members we have lost. Finding out that Russell Neal and his brother are in jail/prison for the very exact crime really blew me away because you have to think, what are the odds of two brothers convicted of the same type of crime, so sad.

When people think of hi five, the first thing that always comes up is the tragedies the band endured and not the potential they did possess and that's a fact! their story deserves a biopic

It seems like once Hollywood gets ahold of someone, their life is damaged forever. 😢 Hi5 was truly talented.❤️

Tony Thompson could have been just as big as Usher.. They were contemporaries, and Tony had better vocal ability. Too bad the pull of drugs took him under and stifled his potential.

I always believed they had one of the most tragic stories in R & B history! Great job as always RRG!

This group HAD so much potential. They were literally gifted, but yet had a curse cast upon the members it almost seemed. The time they were together as a group, they blessed R&B tremendously. It was heartbreaking when the way the found Tony deceased, behind an air conditioning unit from huffing Freon. SMH
May the remaining members prosper & continue with the music & may the ones hurt by the band members actions, much healing & peace. #RIPTony

Sad this group went through so much, replacing different members. RIP to Roderick and Tony. I'm glad they still around and making music.

Oh my gawd that was a LOT! 😳 It’s heartbreaking, honestly. I always loved them and was just listening to “unconditional love” yesterday! I remember I had it on the “Menace II Society” soundtrack! I’m around their ages so it hits different, thinking back to all they were going through. 💔💔💔 Thank you for covering them!!
