If you run a manufacturing facility and need to find a way to cut costs, slashing your energy bill could very well be the easiest and most substantial way of reducing your budget.

Here are the top 5 ways to improve energy efficiency in manufacturing plants:

1. Track Your Current Energy Use
Figuring out where you consume and how you consume energy is the first step to identifying how to cut energy costs.

2. Monitor Real-Time Energy Use
Being able to see how your devices are performing on a granular level can help you save money, manage consumption, improve efficiency, detect anomalies in your equipment, and prevent downtime and disruptions to your operations.

3. Lighting
Making the switch to LEDs can lead to a steep cut in your utility bill. LED bulbs use about a quarter of the energy to produce the same amount of light as halogens and last 5-10 times longer. Incorporating motion detector sensors and lighting controls can further help cut costs.

4. Heating and Cooling
Heating and cooling can take up a huge portion of your energy bill. Installing smart thermostats can help you regulate the temperature throughout the year and help you save tens of thousands of dollars. You could also consider installing controls that can help regulate the speed, output and run-time of HVAC equipment.

5. Avoid Peak Energy Times
Running during peak times could be drastically adding to your plant’s utility bill. Consider a PV solar and energy storage system, in which a battery system is charged by solar power. Investing in battery storage is one of the best ways for a business to save money on peak energy use. With this type of system, you’ll be able to store energy at a lower rate for later use, like during peak times.

Taking steps to make your plant more energy efficient is a no-brainer. Not only will you save hundreds of thousands of dollars, but you will help optimize the comfort of your employees and their productivity. With so many energy technology funding options available, it doesn’t have to be a financial concern anymore as well. There really is no reason to wait.

One of the points this lady missed is that LED lighting also reduces the heat generated by the lights - which means that the AC has to work less hard. In other words, installing LED lighting ( and all the controls you can get with them ) is a double whammy.
