My experience with "Why We Sleep" by Dr. Matthew Walker. It's changed my life, my health, and of course, my cycle and charts! :)

Cannot agree more! Every singe time I try to force the morning bird schedule, I go right back to the same time of 12am to 9am. Going to let my body decide what my sleep is and the time that is best for me to wake up. I plan to start with 11pm to 8am and if that does not work then my sleep is indeed 12am to 9am.

It is just so reassuring to know there are a lot of other night owls out there. Also, that we're not just lazy bums, as we've been told all our life. It's a great book.

A night owl sleeps at like 3am not midnight 😂

I'm a proud night owl. Just as yourself I've allowed myself to listen to my body and don't force it into anything. Of course, now I'm able to do so. I'm not sure if this will continue in the future. However, I do plan to do the best I can to pursue a life style that aligns with my body's needs and my values :) I loved the book. I read it because I saw you did and it was great!

Gosh, that punishment you talk about... so real. That "you are lazy", "you're not productive enough"... in Spanish there's a saying "God helps early risers". Even that... always made me feel guilty, even I've always known that I'm a night owl. I'm more creative in ther afternoon/night. I can stay creating up until 5 am without problem. Even if I have to wake up, let's say at 7 to do something, I can't sleep before 1am (Plus waking up at that time makes all my body sick). Right now, I can do it and I'm trying to embrace that night owl in me and letting my body decide. But fighting agains 40 years of "must wake up early" and the guilt in my mind... Really great founding your video at this exact moment.

My friend, there has to be a fourth chronotype, which is me: if my body had its way, I’d get up at 11PM and go to bed at 11AM. So a complete "24 cycle" as it’s known. I also have hypersomnia, which is the need for tons more sleep than a "normal" person.
Of course I’ve tried to turn it around, but I just get anxious and physically sick when I try to force myself to do something it doesn’t like.

Please reply if there are others out there like me!
I'm 49 years old, female.

By the way, it’s 4:37 am now, and I’m cleaning up my lunch dishes and doing chores, wondering what I might like for dinner around 8 or 9 am!

It's hard to be an night owl for me as since my family never ever let's me do what I want for my sleep schedule. They are always pushing me around to the point that I never get used to things, just let me sleep during the day, it's my body not theirs yet I get in trouble for being up at night. Why do people force upon the early bird lifestyle, it's annoying

Spot on, I have the same thoughts. Someone had to be the night watch. Also, it might help with people not to get burnt in the sunlight. There's a ton of vitamin D to get in dusk and dawn, not just mid day.

I don't like to wake up at 7:00am or even 8:00am. I wake up at 9:00am or 10:00am and I wouldn't have it any other way.

There was a time in my life when I was all about getting that worm in the early morning but that time in my life is gone and I’m not complaining or bothered by it either. It’s just a fact. I’m really glad you brought up history with the fact that there were certain people that would watch over their others through the dark night. I heard the analogy sometime ago in college but it hit harder hearing you bring it up again. I’m a 25 year old college student and my classes gel around my sleep schedule perfectly. I wake up at the same time everyday and gain the same hours that morning people do. I know I’m not alone with this thought process. It’s 4:01 am as I type this, and going to bed isn’t on my mind to say the least. Thank you

Struggling with this. Wanting to be a morning person but I’m a night owl…

The reason why I like to work later is because you avoid the rush rush of the morning society. I'm not in a hurry to do anything and the morning rush is a scam.
