How do the parties standing in the 2024 European Parliament election compare in their climate policies?

I look through the manifestos and the recent voting records of the seven political groups in the European Parliament, and assess their stance on the environment.

How do the parties compare on climate change in the European election of 2024? Who should I vote for to improve climate ambition in the EU? I compare the stances of the EPP, the S&D, Reform Europe, the Greens, Identity and Democracy, the ECR, and the Left.

SUBTITLES! Please check the subtitles options - we are currently trying to translate the video into as many EU languages as possible. Currently available: Dutch, Finnish, Czech, German, Polish, French.

We hope this will make this an easy video to share in group chats and on message boards.

Also, apologies for originally using a thumbnail that accidentally missed Denmark... 😅 that's now been fixed.

It's so depressing watching this as a Brit. Thanks a lot Brexit.

For the Dutch that can vote tomorrow: Volt is part of the greens, not the Renew coalition!

Thank you for raising awareness about this, especially for people to be more informed about their votes.

Climate Change is a global concern!!

I live in Czech Republic, and will be voting for the Pirate party, which is grouped with the Greens in EP. Luckily they do not oppose nuclear power, which I see as essential for decarbonization. I kinda wish I could vote for some party that is in the left SD group, but there are literally no traditional left wing parties left in Czech Republic. It's just the Pirates with about 10%, one small ALDE party, two small EPP parties, and then the rest, expected to get something like 70% of the vote here, are ID and ECR parties. Which is really frustrating. Almost all are shouting how they are going to stop "The Green Madness", completely ignoring reality.

I’m from America and while I obviously can’t vote in the EU elections, I’ll be voting for our incumbent president because his challenger, the former president, is threatening to tear apart environmental and scientific agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as well rolling back ambitious climate policy

So leftists want to fix it, while conservatives want to keep doing it.. As expected.

I find the resistance to nuclear among the environmental advocates troubling.

Here are the results:

The protectors: Lost 22 seats
The procrastinators: Lost 22 seats
The prehistoric thinkers: Gained 22 seats

Good luck everyone. Dress for warm weather, do not inhale and hope you know how to swim

Hey Simon, long time viewer, first time commenter. Thanks so much for making this breakdown. As people who recently moved to the EU from the US, this video was helpful for understanding the confusing web of political parties and agendas — both within each country (thank you for the ticker at the bottom of the screen!) and the larger EU parliament. Stellar stuff. Thank you so much for this resource. And congrats on the channel. So happy you'll keep making the videos we all love (and need!)

Specially for the EU elections, I think climate should be the priority. National issues call for national decisions and international issues that do require international cooperation call for international decisions(EU).

Brilliant work on the party ticker at the bottom.

Sorry Simon, I won't be voting in the E.U. election... Mostly because it would be illegal since I don't live in the E.U. Love the video nonetheless.

In the post ITV debate interviews from last night, Tice was very obviously doing exactly what you predicted in one of your recent videos, pushing the dangerous stance in which instead of directly denying climate change, he claims that its too late and too expensive to fix the problem. "Why fight the power of the sun?" Smh.

I like many will celebrate any victory over the torys, but I really hope it comes at minimal resulting seats in the hands of Reform UK.

Obviously this is entirely adjacent to this videos topic but it was fresh in my head when I saw the title of this video.

I think more important then the year the party claims they'll achieve net zero, is how solid their plans are

What an amazing video, the ticker at the bottom of national political parties alone must have been a massive amount of work.
Add on the research into the EU parties green voting credential and WOW you have my deepest respects for bringing this to our attention in such a timely fashion 👍🏼

this is important many parties talk about climate protection but do the opposite

Thank you so much for these reports. I just finished my own decision making this morning based on the programs. I initially was still hesitant between two parties, but this confirms my preferred choice: Both of them are member of Renew Europe, and one of them shows to be a clear traitor. Looking forward to a green Europe!
