Sometimes it's better to just say "I wanted to draw a hot woman in skimpy armour" than to just say something stupid. It's honest, has no bs, and saves time.

Skimpy armors work in gladatorial settings where the goal is not just to defeat your opponents but to also be as flamboyant and entertaining as possible

"It distracts the enemies" is a CRAZY excuse💀

Good explanations:
- It's not battle armour, it's decorative/ceremonial
- All genders wear this armour for culture
- Wizard.

They're not real fighters. They're just models. Best explanation.

As a straight male who likes the female armour. I accept it's ridiculous and unrealistic. I think the best way to deal with it is to make the male armour just as skimpy and ridiculous.
Also I have no excuse of explanation for it

I remember as a teenager I was writing a goofy sci-fi setting. One of the alien species I wrote had a warrior culture that rejected armor entirely in favor of skin tight force fields, because they could move incredibly quickly and didn't want to hinder their mobility with any amount of weight. Even then, I never even thought about having them wear anything other than normal, full clothing.

"It's just hot" is honestly the best explanation they can give tbh

“Why are you wearing high heels on a battle field?”
“What can women not slay in this day in age? GOD!”

The force field thing is hilarious to me. That’s an explanation for why Lex Luthor, a scientific genius with access to futuristic technology, has his head exposed in his war suit.

It probably shouldn’t be used to explain why a character in a fantasy setting has their entire torso uncovered during warfare.

There a some valid "Im story telling through design" reasonings that are valid too. Like i have a knight character who has a boob window in his armor but its bc he's a cocky asshole who's so good at fighting he can give you a direct target to the heart and still win

Honestly, just own it. Sincerity is always preferred to trying to weasel your way out of not admitting what you believe.

I always thought the survivors bias explanation is the funniest one

I mean explanations can exist but if that isnt part of both genders designs my eyebrow will be raised very high.

I've seen a few decent 'in-universe' explanations for impractical clothing and armor but my favorite has to be when it's simply character preference. Like the moment of a warrior shedding their armor because it's just slowing them down.

Story Time: I actually had to deal with this for my longest running D&D character. Initially she wore leather armor but was repeatedly exposed to situations that destroyed or ruined it, so much so that she kept several spare sets and scraps on her for repairs. But the kicker is that this bad luck eventually culminated in the most cursed set of dice rolls I've ever seen that led to a broken artifact and a Wild Surge.

This surge ended up inverting my character's AC where the less she wore the more heavily armored she was. To the point that in the skimpiest attire she was comfortable with made it so it took a +2 weapon to even bruise her and while completely naked it took a +3 to so much as leave a scratch.

There's actually a bawdy tavern song in-universe titled 'Ceryn The Naked Paladin' because of her taking on an entire battalion of soldiers (and winning) in the buff.

The best explanation I've ever seen is one where the "armor" was acknowledged to be impractical _in-universe._ The villain was a parody of military dictators and had a Gaddafi-style personal guard composed of hot women in skimpy armor. (Though IRL Gaddafi had them in normal uniforms, but with supermodel hair and makeup.)

I am a firm believer in the fact that people just need to embrace their fetish content instead of making dumb excuses. It’s like final fantasy XIV. Some armor is practical, some is sexy to make it sexy. Both men and women get a set that’s a leaped print tiny undies with thigh high boots, and that’s just how it is
