I been watching AMD CPU reviews all morning at 1.25 video speed. I had to slow it down to Normal with all your geek speek (cpu analytics). Great Job. Thank You.

I guess Zen 4 3D is going to be insane for gaming and perfect for the next gen gpus
Thanks for the review Luke

I'll wait for the X3D variant which will ultimately launch at somepoint.

You can lower the PPT for the Zen 4 CPUs - and it ends up a lot more efficient. This has big implications for EPYC because performance per watt matters more there.

I think most people should wait for the X3D editions for gaming and because by then, the motherboards will be cheaper.

I have a 5800X, and 32Gb of Dualrank CL16 ram, I'm in a sticky spot. only real valid upgrade path for a better cpu for gaming is the 5800X3D lol.

How good the 5800X3D fares is a testament to why we should have received the 12c and 16c variants with the 3DVcache... Sure, AMD prefers to sell those in server deployments with memory-oriented workloads guise, and the 8c Zen3 guise was released to get closer to Intel chips as a stop gap before Zen4... but now? I wonder when or if we get 3DVcache 12c/16c chips of either generation if Raptors happen to put a huge gap between themselves and top Zen4s of today... The workstationy workloads that typically could get highest boosts are a domain of the 12c/16c more so than the 8c SKUs, so these would possibly see best benefits. However, the way Zen4 chips are now configured to run at higher temps most of the time, I'm wondering how the 3DVcache variants would fare in the long run...

The efficiency at 65w is staggering. Definitely undervolting when I get my 7950x.

First review I see using the 6950xt, I completely agree this is the right way to do it!

6.5 billion transistors in a 70mm area. Amazing.

Im going to point this out because just about everyone seems to be ignorant to it

All 7000 series CPU’s will crank the power to the Limit of the CPU or to the socket limit of 230w which ever is lower (230w is the socket limit but it can be ignored and you can happily pull upto 270w without destroying anything)

So for example the 7950x will always run at 95c its designed to pull more and more and more power until it either cant draw more power or it hits 95c AND THATS BY DESIGN!!

You want a cooler CPU just manually set the PTT to a lower value or brute force more cooling into it

5950x to 7950x power consumption is within 20w

@KitGuruTech Great review Luke, especially about the required fan/mobo tuning and potential noise issues. All your USA counterparts missed that completely. With the cost to change to a new platform and the aforementioned issues. 5950x looks awesome now. Will look for it in Black Friday deals!

interesting so undervolt is the way to go. But yeah.. im waiting for the 3D versions

Thank you for reviewing the 7700x. I'm scared to buy something so power hungry as the 7950x :(. Sounds like I can't even run the 7950x on air anyway (without thermal/power limits lowering performance).

Nice review, but I had to watch it at x1.5 speed :D Great mention about limiting power usage, I think you could add more infor about power usage and performance at one chart with under volt.

Can't wait till the R9 7950X3D :)

In November 2022, 7700x is available with B650 board for just $524 USD. Far cheaper than 420 British pounds just for the cpu.

Wow Intel are going to have to pull all the stops out to match that ! I skipped to the results first - will watch the rest later. amazing !
