Since you’re in South Korea and they kicked covid’s ass, can you talk about your experiences during the lock down?

Actually we do know the answers to most of the questions you said we don't know the answers to.
'What virus' are' : This differs from virus to virus, but for those we have studied, we pretty much know everything about what they are down to the genome sequence and proteins that make up their capsids.
Where they came from: probably many different origins, but they also evolve so we know that much (that much of the variety is due to divergent evolution from earlier versions).
What their purpose on our planet is: this suggests that everything requires a purpose. If you are going down that route then you might as well ask what the purpose of beach sand is.
The main problem with the idea of virus' from space is that virus' only work because they have very specific sequences that create protiens that they use to trick cells into causing them to replicate. They are very sophisticated and only work with their target life forms, so if they came from space then so did life, and we should really be asking about life's origin not the virus'. More importantly though we are fairly sure that most life on earth evolved on earth from earlier forms, so any virus' that attack say eukaryotes, could not possibly be from space as it would not function.

Edit: the paper regarding deposition of viruses and bacteria clearly state in the abstract that the viruses falling from the sky are aerosolized from primarily ocean spray. It also shows how they can track the movement of different genus's that are deposited and correlate abundance of particulates of different sizes to being conducive to bacteria and viral deposition.

There was a hypothesis about this, one part suggested that the Himalayan mountains almost reach to space and the thin atmosphere coming over them could rain space viruses on China.

Another hint of evidence was that folk like the Innuit (in Yukon or close) and other remote parts of the world got a virus within days of France or China, which should be impossible in early 1900s given the travel difficulties. Also healthy folk got it more than elderly or kids, suggesting folk outside contracted it.

I think this was the Spanish flu from early 20th century.

Just a hypothesis, but food for thought.

We just studied back in Nov.-Dec., how most mass meteor falls are shortly followed by an epidemic or pandemic. This has been noted for centuries, and in fact became a "warning sign, " for communities to move rather quickly to avoid the "wrath of the gods." There's a graph you can put together, which I found quite interesting that shows this to be true. Very cool stuff. Best to you and yours Anton.
