In this video by Let's Learn To Sew I show you how to sew a backstitch using your home sewing machine, to anchor every seam and keep it secure. A backstitch should be only a few stitches at the beginning and end of your seam.

Thank you for the perfect way to SHOW what this is for those that are visual learners! I am about to replace the Vinyl seat cover on my office chair as it has shredded. The top is one piece and has a side panel stitched all around, long enough to fold under and staple to the bottom panel. Why not back stitch the entire length?

After the final backstitch, is there any need to knot the threads? If not, what holds those final stitches in place?
