Still haven't seen a Dracula movie as close to the source material as this one. Yes, they changed a few things, but most (with the exception of the reincarnation love story arc) were very trivial things, like changing the Dr's name from John, to Jack, which actually makes perfect sense, since it often caused confusion in the novel with the character Johnathan Harker.

The Arges river flows below the Poenari Castle. The Râul Doamnei river is a totally different river which flows into the Arges river further south some 80 km near the town of Pitesti.

Interesting. I doubt if Stoker was aware of any of this. This kind of not well known history was brought to light only recently when audiences started researching vampires.

Too many movies try to say that Count Dracula was Vlad. But no evidence links Stoker's Dracula to Vlad, other than the name. There is more evidence that Stoker was inspired by Elizabeth Bathory, than by Vlad. Before he learned of Vlad, during Stoker's research for his book, the Count was going to be named Count Vampire. He liked the name Dracula and used it. Dracula is a descendant of Atilla the Hun, according to the novel.
