Soulful Slow 12 Bar-Blues Jam | Guitar Backing Track In D

My approach to blues is simple: Use the minor pentatonic and add notes of the I IV V chords as they happen. Look at the video. Watch how the chord tones (GREEN) interact with the pentatonic scale (RED). IN EVERY CASE, there is only ONE note that falls outside of the pentatonic scale. THAT IS YOUR TARGET.

If you are more adventurous, advanced, or jazzy, try the same concept, but using the Dorian mode (BLUE). You will discover some very cool (and familiar) chromatic sounds... ENJOY!

Soulful Slow 12-Bar-Blues Backing Track In D (46.66 BPM)

Your goal as a soloist is to create MELODY. Our neck diagrams give you the notes you can use to create that melody in REAL TIME. Think of the Diagrams as 3 layers of information:

1. PENTATONIC - The pentatonic scale works all the time and almost never changes, so this is the basic level.
2. MODE - The mode will always be the pentatonic PLUS 2 NOTES (modes have 7 notes). The mode can change depending on the chords (modal interchange).
3. CHORD - The chord layer shows you the notes of the chord changes (aka the HARMONY) in REAL TIME. Outgoing notes get smaller and fade out, incoming notes will fade in, so you know what notes to go for next.

In our app AlphaJams (currently in Beta), you will be able to control which layer you see, and how much of the neck you see. It should be out in the next few months, so please stay tuned!

Good luck and thanks for checking it out! ✌🏼 ✌🏼

I appreciate these vids; super helpful for my students to practice to. I noticed that on this one the turnaround is incorrectly labeled and wanted to let you know. You have it as a straight I-V over two bars but it's I-IV-I-V instead over the same length, two beats each. Thanks for sharing these!

Really a big one ! Love the slowdown tempo. You let a place like the Sahara desert to improve. I can not play just now, but in my head I’m with my guitar playing a monster jam on it 😀😀😀 Well done 👍

You said D and I thought I heard B so I solo'd blues in B and it works but sorta as a mixolydian D and I know nothing about theory but my ear likes playing the B scale (minus a note here and there) and then going into a minior D and the flavor change is palpable! Thanks for inspiring the happy mistakes. Your channel does more than you might realize. :). The very least I can do is not skip through your ads at the beginning! Speaking of which, the start to this reminds me slightly of Beck's take on Goodbye Porkpie Hat.
