Id never thought running on the left side of the 1st base foul line was illegal.

As a kid and player in high school I was actually encouraged by my coaches to do this to potentially block a thrown ball.

I didnt read much into it since I thought everyone was doing this

He was mad at the umpire but he should be mad at their graphic designer from Temu that thought the walgreens logo was a good idea

Partially correct...there are some instances like drop 3rd strikes where you do not always run in between those white line.

Bottom line: rule needs to change, not sure on how you go about it...

As an umpire reviewing these 3 plays...all three safe as from what I am seeing the catcher is intentionally throwing at the runner to bait the interference call....this is the pros and catchers are taught to sidestep on these types of plays to make a safer throw for the runner and the first baseman.

the number of officials screwing games in every sport is just crazy.

It only takes one meeting to fix the rule, that’s whats brutal about it. Also, keep up the good work I’m loving the videos.

Even in high school and middle school I knew where to run. They are professionals who get paid a ton to play hobby for most people.

Umpires need to know the rules and enforce them!

This is a great channel. It has totally resparked my love for baseball.

A similar problem happened in other games that season. It was decided that when the runner begins to run from home he creates his own baseline. As long as the runner doesn't deviate too far from their initial trajectory they are in-play

At this point Dave Martinez either needs to go to anger management or send a muffin basket because it's obvious the umpires have a chip on their shoulder. What the heck did he do to earn their ire?

I have mixed feelings about this. There is a “special” designated base path to first. That is intended for safety. I get that. There is no other base where getting hit by a ball this would make you out. We aren’t playing kickball after all. A right handed batter if there is no chance of turning two that makes a beeline for the bag should never be called out for it.

I hate how baseball is full of unwritten rules, but they won’t follow the written down ones.

Question would have to be how many other plays did the runner run outside the lane. They couldn’t only call that play as the winning run based on the footage after the fact

Not what it seems, he intentional threw it to try and get an interference called. Dave is pissed because his tactic isn't working

the actual rule says that a runner between bases establishes a lane and as long as he doesn't deviate from that line he is fine.
