As one of the oldest traditions ever, the Olympics started all the way back in the 8th century BC. Every 4 years, the fiercely independent Greek City-States would set aside their differences and send their best athletes to see who was the best.

Did the Elians, the organizers of the event, mint coins? Did the participating cities mint coins celebrating their victories? We are finding out in this video!

Just want to let you know I love your videos.
I’ve been binge watching all of them.
I had an antoninianus (no silver) of Aurelian and one of Postumus (20% silver) and watching your videos makes me really happy and inspired me to spend more than I ever have on a coin and buy a Gordian 3rd Silver coin!

Thank you so much. You make my day.

I have a wrestling stater from Aspendos. I never knew it had a direct connection to the Olympics.
