Must Have Dry Fly for Trout!

The "yellow sally" refers to a common name for a species of stonefly. Stoneflies are aquatic insects belonging to the order Plecoptera. The name "yellow sally" is often used to describe stoneflies of the genus Isoperla, and they are known for their yellowish coloration.

This fly pattern is designed to mimic the characteristics of the yellow sally species. While it accurately captures the profile, it also functions as a great attractor fly throughout the year. I particularly enjoy using it for brook trout, but it's always a handy to have in the fly box for when you spot yellow sallies emerging.

CDC it is natures perfect combination of providing movement and buoyancy. Even ten percent used added to a dubbing blend gives a marked improvement to the buoyancy of the pattern. For years every time I use CDC I save any offcuts and unused fibres in packets to reuse for tails or as part of a dubbing blend. It is ideal as part of thorax area as part of nymphs or emergers. With a little brushing out gives a good approximation of either gills or legs.
