Utmost respect for those guys. Nobody gets injured, no drama, no high speed chase afterwards. Indeed professionals at work.

Amil and James Dinsio were both released from prison in January 1996. But 1 year later they were convicted again in New York of robbery kidnapping and use of a firearm and got 25 years. Amil was paroled in 2018 and is still alive at age 86 while James died in prison in 2008 age 78.
Phil Christopher served 6 years and was released.
Harry Barber only served 3 years of a 20 year sentence before being released in 1983 and is 81 years old.
Not sure when Charles Mulligan and Ronald Barber were released and don't know the current whereabouts of Charles Broeckel.

Chuck Mulligan is my grandpa, Amil is my uncle. It’s so weird growing up hearing the story about your grandpa and now listening to YouTube videos about it. Amil wrote a book while in prison called Behind the Vault, highly recommended. It gives a lot more detail about how they learned the security systems and how they stole from Nixon

This crew was so meticulous and near flawless in their execution of the heist and yet they forgot about the freaking dishwasher and basically confessed to their crimes by openly bragging about it. A tale of criminal brilliance and arrogant stupidity.

The heist itself was meticulously planned, but the previous activities : (registered) transport by plane, paying for a house to have a meeting together, travelling together in one taxi, leaving the car with all the evidence inside it, not planning their disappearance after the crime, forgetting the dishes in the dishwasher etc were all huge planning errors.. these are the reasons they were apprehended and then jailed.. good break-in, but poor attention to planning details..

I wish they’d bring back shows like this and American Justice.

A fascinating story about a strange mixture of ingenuity and incompetence on the part of a criminal gang.

The perfect heist is the one where you are caught over and over again but never get in trouble.. seems to be happening a lot lately.

My Mom's uncle was one of the leaders of those guys" who were stilling Tractor and Trailers in the Country back in the 70s. He opened up several Eye Ear Optical stores to help launder the Money that he was making from the stolen Trucks. The only reason that he got caught, was because his brother worked for the FBI and was actually assigned to the case.

There was a very similar robbery in Montreal in 1989. The thieves rented a space in a strip shopping mall right above a bank. Then during a long weekend in October they bored through the ceiling and helped themselves to the safety deposit boxes and made off with over $5, 000, 000.00
