NVIDIA GeForce NOW: Tested on Cheap and Expensive Hardware

When GeForce NOW came out of beta just over a week ago, I initially had my reservations about how well the service would actually perform. Being a big fan of Stadia and the way it works, I expected NVIDIA's service to perhaps work well on certain devices and fall flat on others. I realized almost immediately that those expectations were flat-out wrong and GeForce NOW has quickly become a daily go-to for gaming on a handful of devices I own.

We've included a sampling of GeForce NOW running on everything from a mid-range phone to a $2000 Macbook Pro. Specifically, we tested the Pixel 3a XL, the Lenovo Tab 4 10+ (an older tablet running Android 7), the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e (a mid-range, $400 tablet), the Surface Go, and a 2016 Macbook Pro. When you talk about a range of devices, I think this covers the spectrum.

I love the way Nvidia did their GeForce Now service, I’ve been using it with my 2015 Nvidia ShieldTV boxes

I've been playing with GFN over 6 months with 20Mbps 1080p 30fps and my games works pretty fine the most important thing is that I can play anywhere with my phone and my x1s controller it's just amazing! Shoutout for GFN for making Stadia dead 🏆💫

I spent a long time saving to build my pc, even though it’s not strong enough to run the games I wanted to play I was still happy to call it a gaming pc and now I get a chance to play those games with my crappy pc I think they should continue to work on this.

I love how you consider Geforcenow coming out at an interesting time when STADIA rushed their product to be on the market first regardless if it was ready or not because they knew they couldn't compete with Nvidia

I am sticking with Stadia. I have both, but I like Stadia overall at this point. I am happy with ACO, Destiny 2, RDR II, etc. They keep me busy until the games start to pour in... Forgot to mention that to play on a large 4K tv for GeForce I have to use my Nvidia shield. For google stadia a $69 ultra chrome cast ...

I've been playing Doom 2016 using the service on my nine year old iMac and my new Fire tablet and it works great on both. Playing a game like Doom on max settings on my devices has been awesome.

Microsoft is saying that Stadia is their main competition but it's looking like GeForce now is a bigger threat to their XCloud service

No reason to choose one service over the other. You can use GFN and Stadia Base, both free services. Just buy the games where you want and play how you want.

I personally prefer Stadia right now because it works with my Chromecast Ultras on my three TVs. I'm hoping xCloud and GFN have similar options in the future, but right now you need to use a computer or phone.

Thanks for not hating on stadia and making a good review/comparison 😀

The biggest plus is you get to play the games you already own and you don't have to buy game again. Stadia is greedy af for charging for people each game.

Does GeForce now work on a Samsung galaxy tab a 10.1 inch? Looking to buy one to use it just want to double check it works.

I've used GeForce Now off an on throughout the years. It is a great service given you don't have your own gaming PC to stream off of instead. Gamestream, Moonlight, and Steam Link tend to work better for me, but this is a great option for those without a great gaming rig.

I was using the free account first but I was that impressed I decide to pay the £4.99 a mth for RTX version, it's amazing I no longer have any games installed on my laptop as i just play everything on geforce now...saves space on my hard drive and doesn't overheat my gpu....win win !!

Using my Asus flip c101, geforce now is available and installs direct from the play store - mouse and keyboard isn't working but joypad is fine (also works fine on my Huawei mate 20 pro).

It runs smoothly on a 4k fire stick with cat5 adapter too (because I was too far away from the router). Connect a PS4 controller and you're good to go and play on any tv.

Tried it on MacOS and Android, and it is excellent. However, I tried DS4 controller on Android 9 and 10 via bluetooth, and 9 has serious lag issues for the tablet I used.

I knew this was the future since "OnLive" was a "thing". The logic completely wipes out having to spend thousands on a rig, even if it's subscription-based.
