"Some people think that we have people sitting in the back unwrapping wrappers and throwing little pieces of caramel and melting them." Who in the right mind thinks this???

I've never had one of these, although I've had my share of candy apples (or as we call them in Australia, Toffee Apples). I love caramel, so this looks good to me!

I remember the original Affy Tapple in Chicago (in the 70s). It was on North Clark street.. far North Side. Every Halloween, they would give the kids a free taffy apple. After school, you could go into the factory store and purchase .10 cent apples (broken stick) or a frozen chocolate banana for a quarter. I miss those days!

I love apples. I think one time I went to the candy store and they dipped their apples with chocolate and some other yummy toppings. 😋

Nearly every time I’ve had one of these the apples are bruised. I think they use apples that are unsellable and just coat them with caramel and sell them anyway.

Lowkey off topic but this just reminded me of a childhood memory. Does McDonald’s still have that caramel dip with happy meal apple slices?? I remember the caramel tasted soo good, but no McDonald’s in my city has it now :((

Years ago I worked in a caramel apple factory in Ohio. Very similar setup.

I used to make my own caramel apples with the Granny Smith apples and a brand that comes with caramel discs that you simply lay over the apple, spike then bake off or the candy apple syrup you made on the stovetop then dip your apples in it then cool. Delicious! I wouldn’t eat it now though, I just got my grill looking beautiful again.
