Best 4K TV for a Computer Monitor! - Sony 43X720E

This is the best 4K TV I could find to use as a computer monitor. And to my surprise it works really well, especially for productivity.

Sony KD43X720E 43" 4K TV

Alternatively you could just get the LG or Dell 43" Monitor instead of a TV if you want DisplayPort connectivity, proper standby power and stand. But I found the Sony TV route a little cheaper and it's also flicker free, whereas the LG/Dell aren't.

The days of having a super small monitors are over ! More and more people are buying 4K tvs instead of monitors which is why monitors have been droping in sales fast. Once HDMI 2.1 comes out, tvs will be superior to monitors in every way possible ! No input lag, 4K at 240hz, HDR Plus, Variable refresh rate, all audio codecs pass thru !!!

I received my 43inches 4k TV yesterday and I use it as a monitor. Overall, I feel quite negative about it. It is great for games but you do have to sit back a bit further. Definitely better than my 27inches 1080p Samsung monitor for games. The problem is the size for using for productivity. The screen is too large, to comfortably read what is on the left/right side of the screen, I have to move with the chair. My head is constantly swinging when looking for the start, volume, close buttons and all that. I end up using everything in the middle of the screen because this is easiest.

The benefit of using dual 1080p monitor would be that you can keep them at an angle so your chair never has to move sideways.

On the plus side, the TV with 125% scaling offers about 40% more screen space than my 1080 monitor (compared by extending to the TV and click and drag maximised window to the TV). People will tell you it offers 4 times more space but you'd have to use it without any scaling and loool good luck with that :)

Also, my personal computer with NVidia GPU can handle displaying 4k @60Hz with 4:4:4 subsampling. My work laptop with integrated graphics running linux can handle max 4k @30hz or 1080p @30hz, which makes everything pointless.

Overall, for productivity, I would prefer I bought simply another 1080p monitor or 1440p. Would take up a bit more space but would offer 2x the amount of space and would be more comfortable to use. For games (non-hardcore games) and movies, I prefer a large TV screen TV because you get to see more details and sit further away on a couch.

In fact it's good that you're not able to see the edges without physically moving your head. You'll preserve your health a little bit longer if you spend too much time in front of the computer.

Watching this video on 3x1 portrait triple monitor setup. I have lined up the screens in a slight angle so I can see the far corners of the screens without any issues. I have always been a big fan of huge screen but the reason why I went with multiple screens rather than one huge screen was mainly the input lag and the high cost of curved screens.

A couple of problems with tvs as computer monitors : lag, and pixel density. While Oled are bringing the space between the two closer and closer, as of right now 4k tvs still have a pixel density that is very noticeable when close to the tv. Which is important when it comes to fine text, including PC, photos, games, etc. And talk about eye strain from the light. Even if the refresh rates are high 120-144 that is not the same as lag from your gpu to the tv processor, cursor dpi cannot make up for it either.
Also Zhang mentioned the monitor was glossy, almost no gamer or anyone using a computer would want a glossy screen as even the reflection of the tv off your body, would be noticeable using a tv as a monitor up close.
But on that, I frequently hook my pc to my 4k HDR tv with a hdmi 2.0, and it looks and plays awesome. But when i play COD or WOW or programs like indesign, photoshop, etc - I go back to my hdr ips 2k 27" monitor. The finer detail is a must.
I think once they either have the newer OLED tv along with a display port or hdmi 3.0 is when you will see the lines starting to verge more and more.

TRUE STORY: I was thinking of buying a 4k TV as my computer monitor... until I watched your OTHER video "Why you shouldnt use a 4k tv as a computer monitor". And because of that video I bought a 34 inch ultrawide computer monitor 2 days ago off ebay instead. Fast forward to today and I stumble across THIS video. These 2 videos directly conflict each other, keeping them both up is a mistake, you should pick one and take the other down.

I scaled it at 300% and boom no more problems !!! I play everything on this tv including fast paced shooters and I do not notice any input lag. 33ms input lag is nothing at all and the human eye cant see that and you really cant feel input lag until you reach 68ms ! This tv also has HDR and it has the best and fastest processors out of any tv manufacturers so the detail of the on screen display is superior to any tv of its category by a huge margin !!!

Regardless of the few problems you listed, it isn’t really much of a pain. My question is WHAT requirements do I need in order to run the 4K with the desktop. I I know I need at least an HDMI 2.0 port for sure.

I completely agree with this video and I like the idea of owning one of these. Smaller screens have better PPI's and take up less space, are more portable and I'd guess run cooler with less leds. And for less than five hundred dollars no less.
