Note on confidence from a former teacher: it's totally a thing. In education, there's this concept known as the 'growth mindset' which was first coined by Dr. Carol Dweck (the opposite being 'fixed mindset'). She studied the behavior of thousands of children and found that those who were confident in their ability to achieve (growth mindset), did; and those that didn't (fixed mindset), didn't. Essentially, your mindset in whatever you do is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you go into math thinking that you won't do well because you're bad at math and there isn't anything you can do, you won't do well in your math class. But if you change your mentality to something like, 'This is hard, but I know I'll figure it out', at some point you will. Belief in yourself is KEY in every single endeavor you have in your life, even those outside of school. So if believing in yourself seems like a bit of a stretch now, try changing your mindset first and see how it goes. Over time as you do more, your confidence will grow too!

I'm currently 15, planning to be a dermatologist when I grow up. This was pretty interesting to watch:)

I'm a 33 year old engineer watching this and my husband has a worried look on his face, probably thinks I'm going to tell him I'm starting med school 🤣

Thanks guys. This is very helpful. I'm 45 and in a pre-Med program. This helps me know what I'm getting to.

My boyfriend is currently in his last year of Anesthesia residency and this video really helped me understand his world a little bit better. I work in the corporate world and it’s vastly different from his career path, so appreciate the breakdown - helps me be more empathetic towards everything he’s going through/ has gone through :)

This video came at the PERFECT time! I'm about to start my first year of medical school in a week, and you've both been such inspirations to me as someone who had always felt that dermatology was out of my reach. A lot of what you said really resonated with me, as I also struggled a lot in high school and spent much of my first year in college learning to learn, which definitely made me a stronger student in the long run. It was really eye-opening to hear about all the hard work that you both put into your careers, and I'd love to hear more about the research you did in med school!
Thank you again for sharing all your knowledge & experiences!

Great video! I'm 44 so won't be starting med school but still love hearing about your journey! I think you both are great. Your patients and the medical community are lucky to have you. Thanks for sharing. 💜

As a current medical student studying for boards and going through clinical rotations, listening to your journeys was so therapeutic and inspiring

You guys are so amazing💙💙And I appreciate you both for sharing your journeys. I actually recently switched my major from human/social service to Esthetican because of my own medical challenges with Lupus & Ovarian Cancer. I know what the journey towards healing was for me. It was a 12 year battle and I’m so thankful to be here and have the opportunity to help someone else whom may be dealing with the same situations as I. Thank you both for this empowerment🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽♥️🕊

*This is sooo inspirational* !!! My biggest dream is to become a Clinical Psychologist, which is far from anything medical school related since my aim was never Psychiatry. I have SO MUCH respect for all the very, very hard work you BOTH have put into your dreams and into in turn - becoming Dermatologists. I wish I could say I was the best student but I'm struggling with motivation and it's just so hard. I know I could do so much better but my heart is not really there. My field is highly competitve and geting into grad school for Clinical Pyschology is the hardest thing tbh in the Psychology field, apart from of course wanting to become an MD (Psychiatrist). It's so inspirational hearing about others stories of their lives and how you 2 seemed to have turned things around academically from when you both were younger. Bless you both !

I love how down to earth you guys are and this advices really motivate me. I definitely don’t have skin I’m confident of on my face and every time I go to the doctor I feel like I’m being judged and that’s why in the future I want to make people feel comfortable and well treated about their skin and that there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

I have been practicing medicine for almost 20 years and this video brought back so many fun memories! I also can relate to the stories. I remember one of my attendings saying that I joked too much with patients. But, that is just how I am. For weeks after, I wasn't myself until one of my patients told me to smile more and that I was too put me back in my place ;)

Im so glad I watched this!! Im currently studying a non science major even tho I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. I just lacked the self confidence to pursue that journey. But I can’t let go of that dream and I want to be a dermatologist so bad! My next plan is to do a post bacc program and I hope it’ll work out! Thank you for this motivating video!!

I have no desire to go into the medical field, but I still watched the whole thing 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤣 I have so much respect for those who pursues a doctorate in any field though. I used to work at a university for an MSOT program and seeing the professors work full time while also getting their doctorate amazed me. So glad I get to call those amazing people my friends. I have learned so much from watching them on their journey.
