The main reason on why the shake machine kept breaking is because the machine had a spiral auger that spun as the shake mix was dispensed to make either the shakes or dessert cones. When the auger broke in the machine, the part had to be specially made for Mc Donalds machines and were made per order and not manufactured in large quantities as the part cost approx $750 JUST for the auger for the machine to work. The shake and the sundae machine EACH costs in the ballpark of $10, 000 back in the 80's and 90's, I found a sundae machine similar to mcdonalds on ebay for around $7, 000 today.

I worked at the McDonald as an intern before. The machine is not broken. They lied so that they don't need to use milk. Milk is rational at the McDonald's.

According to Mcdonalds, this is the list of ingredients for their shake mix for their milkshakes. I remember when I worked at mcdonalds as a teenager, that the 1st ingredient in the mcdonalds shake mix was MILK SOLIDS and not milk. That was back in the 80's and early 90's. Ingredients: Milk, Sugar, Cream, Corn Syrup, Natural Flavor, Mono and Diglycerides, Cellulose Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Vitamin A Palmitate.
