Nr 2 is no problem. Just don't FORCE it.

Number 2 does not apply to all regions of Germany. In NRW, especially in the area around Cologne, it is pretty normal to talk to strangers as if you knew them However, this is not the standard in Germany. When I (I'm from Cologne) was in Schleswig-Holstein (a federal state in Germany) most people were very surprised when I behaved like this.

I don't agree with number 2. We aren't by far as talkative as Americans, but some people like to exchange some friendly words. Just read the cues (body language, facial expression) before deciding if you should try it with this person.

For Nr 2: From time to time, i talk in the queue. But only a few words with a little humor and only, if they spoke first

I got a Tickets anyway but in Magdeburg in the Tram they nearly never check😅 but in DB-trains u will be checked

Walking on the bike lane in germany is like walking on a freeway.

I'm German and most people have no problem when you talk to them when you wait in the supermarket line 😂I don't know what you've experienced but most Germans are very friendly and especially the older ladies are always up to talk 😊

Just so you know you can actually go to jail if you cant pay the 60€ bill for not having a Card on the train. The worst thing by far to do in Germany is owing something to the government.

There are differences in between the cities! In cologne people love talking to each other while shopping, while having a walk or just sitting on a Park bench! But don’t try this 30km up north in Düsseldorf for example! 😅

I've actually had some pretty damn good conversations in super market queues..
