Make 🌱🫙 ALFALFA SPROUTS in a jar

all you need:
2 tbsp alfalfa sprout seeds
a mason jar
seed sprouting jar lid (we used 25 oz mason jars with 2.75” lid) or small piece of cheese cloth

how to:
DAY 1
1- Sanitize your mason jar by pouring hot water into it and leaving it for 1-2 minutes, then drain and let cool.
2- Soak the broccoli sprouting seeds in the jar submerged in filtered water, and close the mesh lid for about 5 hours.
3- Drain the water through the mesh lid, submerge it with fresh filtered water, swirl, then drain it (tap the jar upside down to get as much water out as possible). Then roll the jar around to separate the seeds while sticking to the sides of the jar. Leave the jar upside down in a bowl at an angle (this allows any remaining water to drip out).
DAY 2-4
4- Continue this process twice daily; every day, your sprouts will grow a bit more by day 4 they have filled your entire jar.
5- Wash the sprouts and transfer to a container lined with a towel and store them in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Tips:
- Leave it on your countertop while sprouting out of direct sunlight.
- Sprouting can take 5-7 days, depending on your kitchen temperature.
- Preferably use filtered water to eliminate potential contaminants.
- The white fuzz is not mold; look closer, they are tiny root hairs, and they will go away.
- Sprouting is safe when done properly.
- We repurposed a 25oz pasta sauce jar and bought the seed sprouting jar lid (mesh lid).

Alfalfa sprouts are so tasty and healthy!! I've been lazy on making my sprouts, time to start again. Lentils and mung beans too!

Agreed with everything said. I would suggest on the second or third day when you start to see legs to put in a sunny window vs dark or indirect sunlight.

Exactly. I had to smile when she said alpha alpha. I thought at first there was a new sprout out there. But i enjoyed the video. I might try those sprouts. I also grow microgreens as well. Both are highly nutritious.

May I ask where you are from? Here in the US, we say "Al-Fal-Fa." I like "Alfa-Alfa" though. 😊 Lovely video. Thank you for sharing, and God bless you.

I LOVE sprouts! I found a VERY inexpensive, and a VERY easy way to grow sprouts! Cost about $3.75 plus the actual seeds!!! Soak them for 12 to 24 hrs, get a oil cooking screen w/ a handle, and a plastic Tupperware cake holder, I get everything I need (OIL SCREEN, CAKE HOLDER, AND EVEN THE JAR TO SOAK THEM IN LOL) from the $1.25 store, aka The Dollar Tree. Anyways after soaking the sprouts turn the oil screen upside down, (so the handle is on bottom) and spread the seeds on top of the screen, put in the cake Tupperware, when u have to rinse them just take the screen and spray them right off, they get attached to the screen fairly quickly so it's super easy to rinse them, and they dry quickly as well!!! Mine end up growing HUGE and super straight and when they ard ready you just literally grab a bunch and they come right off!!!❤❤❤

They are definitely delicious! I eat them with Italian dressing on them at times but they definitely add a great flavor to sandwiches. I have heard they have health benefits but I have never really known...lol

How much seeds did you put in the jar please? Is that one cup or half cup or one tablespoon?
Thank you.

I use about half the quantity of seeds. Still turns out dense in 4, and especially the 5th day.

If someone wonder where does the name come from? It’s an Arabic name for the same plant, then it was changed a bit because of the pronunciation in Spain.

I have rust issues from the cap. And I make sure I get A LOT of the water out. 😢😢 Why is this happening? No one is saying they have this issue...

I had been growing alfalfa sprouts which I love, for almost a year, but my last couple of batches have been slimy and no good. Can you suggest a reason why that would be?
