People often write to Dr. Westman to ask for his opinions on the ever-growing selection of low- and zero-carb foods and beverages available now. There’s a dizzying array of diet and no-sugar soft drinks and carbonated beverages out there, but which ones are best?

The main rules are: don’t force yourself to drink something you don’t like just because it’s zero-carb! Drink what you like, and always be mindful of the total carbs you’re consuming in any given day, from foods and beverages combined.

Check out Dr. Westman’s latest video to hear his thoughts on Zevia, Spindrift, and other soft drinks.

Dr Westman I’ve been 5 years keto and have lost 150 pounds and I’m 70. I was drinking a lot of coffee and Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke. My legs started hurting and Swelling with fluid - bad edema! My doctor prescribed a diuretic and stop my salt I explained that diuretic makes my sodium low. I didn’t take them I just started eliminating things from what I was consuming and it turns out to be caffeine😢Things change. Also I added b1.

This soft and easy talk in a tone and manner which is only somewhat directly about our taking care of ourselves is such a healing form of coaching, motivating and inspiring. When we slide off track we need gentle massaging messages just like this. You put me back on track today.

I drink Pellegrino sparkling water. Sometimes with a squeeze of lemon or lime. Very refreshing.

FYI - ZEVIA COLA is also available in a Zero Caffeine form... This is my ONLY SODA Drink. I quickly adjusted to the fact that the taste is a little "different" than whatever brand name "No-Sugar" softfdrinks you may be used to. 😊 👍 -70SomethingGuy

☕️ I use ONE drop of monk fruit & teaspoon of unsweetened coconut cream or heavy cream in a cup of coffee . I enjoy sparkling mineral water ‐ nothing added.
The less "sweet" you have the less you need 😉👌

Zevia has "natural flavors" which is the biggest lie in the grocery store as it can be filled with all kinds of chemicals/additives that do not have to be disclosed and Stevia, while Spindrift does not. Spindrift for the easy win!

Our Costco started selling Zevia. I’m thrilled because I love it. Sweetened with the purest form of Stevia called Reb A. It’s my sweet treat.

I really like Zevia. I like the cola best but the root beer is very good

I"m having zevia mixed in about 1/4 can with a plain (store brand) seltzer/sparkling water to make it go further since it can be a little pricey in some stores.

Thanks Doctor Westman. Beware of this 2g statement; the carb and juice content varies by flavor. The pineapple for instance is 4g carbs. I got myself into trouble with this, thinking that they were all 1 or 2g, I found my favorite flavors and started sucking them down. 4 or 5 cans per day at 4 grams a pop will kill your program! Any sugar junkie will ultimately gravitate towards their favorites and they are very likely going to be the ones with the highest sugar content. I only drink the lemon ones now and I mix them with another zero carb sparkling water.

In South Africa, the carb amount on the label is indicated per 100ml. So one needs to work out what it will be for the can size -340ml/500ml etc. The carbs can then quickly add up.

I only liked what I put on top of the rice cakes, mainly melted Brie. What was I thinking!? Just eat the yummy Brie and skip the carbs.

When I first started low carb the only thing available to me here in Australia was lightly flavoured sparkling mineral water. I have since been able to purchase artificially sweetened flavoured drinks and ended up having to dilute them with plain sparkling mineral water because they were 1) too strong in flavour and 2) too sweet for me.

I wish I liked Zevia better, even with the steep price, but unfortunately, the first sip or two tastes great, then after that it slowly descends to barely noticeable of any flavor at all. Not sure if I get used to the stevia and flavorings too quickly and they just become bland or it's just the stevia that looses it's 'sweetness' quickly for me.

LMNT perhaps a future vlog pointing out the dangers? Pink salt from a dollar store just as good at a fraction of the cost?
