I once asked my Malaysian friend “where’s the silverware at?” I didn’t mean it badly, just confused. She laughed so hard and said “we have finger bowls”. 💀😂

I can literally shovel food into my mouth by hand. Cutlery slows me down

People act like it's gross but it's only gross if you don't know how to wash your dirty ass hands lol

As an American that eat African, Indian, and Middle eastern food with my hands I thought less dishes to wash it's a win for me

I don't stare because they're eating with their hands, I stare because they do it with such skill.

I think it just goes to show how geography and culture affects our food SO much. Because its a very different experience to eat with spoon, vs. chopsticks, vs. your hands. And it depends what kind of food. I'm grateful to live where I do in America, as I get to experience a small piece of many heritage's food.

Eating with my hands actually helped me recover from an eating disorder! It truly does help you become more mindful of how much and what you’re eating and “connect” with you food in a closer way because becoming so distant to food to the point where I was just using it as a coping mechanism to make myself feel better was beginning to affect my health and even though I would get weird looks from my family in the beginning it’s become one of my favorite ways to eat! Some freshly made biryani eaten with your hands is an amazing experience everyone should have. ❤

I'm Mexican I love eating with my hands too. I love scooping the food with a price of tortilla like you do

Lol there is silverware in Middle East. Some people just prefer it especially in the gulf region. Usually rice is eaten with your hands but most foods are eaten with a fork or spoon.

Utensils were useful in places that didn’t have soap or ways to clean their hands properly. Utensils were easily boiled so you could eat your food without touching it with dirty hands. Soap is from India from the soap nut and the Middle East got it first outside of India. Therefore both cultures are hand eaters, which makes the food taste better and is more calming, less wasteful.
