AL HASA OASIS, SAUDI ARABIA - Welcome to Al Hasa Oasis, the world’s biggest oasis, and home to over 2 million palm trees, and endless amount of date palms! It also happens to be home to some very unique and rare Arabian food. Today we’re exploring some fo the local dishes, including Hassawi red rice - considered more precious than gold!

Friend in the video:

Breakfast - Before doing anything we started with a champions breakfast in Al Hasa - simmered lamb legs with special bread made with date syrup. Delicious and the perfect way to get started on this Saudi Arabian food tour.

Rice harvest - We took a quick trip to a farm to see some of the hassawi red rice harvest
This can be quite a quick edit to see the hassawi red rice harvest. It’s only grown in the Al Hasa oasis, and it’s one of the world’s most expensive rice grains, and extremely rare. Local consider it more precious than gold, and it has huge nutritional value.

Farm for cooking and eating - The highlight of this experience was going back to the date palm farm where Fahad and friends cooked a huge local meal including the most delicious and rare Al Hasa foods that really showcase the incredible local culture. The spread of food and the variety was astounding - it was one of the best meals I had in Saudi Arabia!

Thank you again to Fahad and to Visit Saudi Arabia for arranging my trip and this incredible experience!

Years ago I worked as a chauffeur in Los Angeles. Many clients were not kind and I was mistreated on a regular basis. Of all the clientele I drove, the Saudis were the kindest, most considerate, and generous! I was honored one evening as I was awaiting to drive a Prince at his mansion to be invited into the home and partake in the most delicious food that I have ever tasted! Many days before I was sent home they always made sure i had dinner, then after, release me from my duties. Most mornings, they treated me to breakfast before I drove them. In ten years, no one was as kind and considerate as Saudis. I look forward to visiting the Kingdom, retracing your steps Mark! What wonderful people!

Al Hassa is one of the best of not the best hospitable places on this earth.. Fahad meant it when he invited you and your family to comeback again.. I’m proud to be Saudi.

I think we don't talk enough about Mark Wiens' wife, she is an exceptional woman who accompanies him in all his trips. Congratulations to her, for being close to her husband to help him to make us discover all these cultures and these gastronomies!

I've always been fascinated with the culture and food of the Saudi's, they are truly generous and welcoming, I was able to experience some during my short stay in the Kingdom, hopefully to experience it more soon. Thank you for showing us the local food. Godbless Saudi !!

"Culinary Heritage". I think a lot of people are NOT raised to understand or appreciate this. Watching this particular Saudi Arabian Paradise is like being on another planet. EVERY food item...except for Dates...are items I have never heard of before. Every dish prepared is a dish I would never understand or try. But, if lucky enough to visit such a place as this, Mark has made it seem like a Treat Beyond Compare. Thank You Mark.

I lived in Bahrain and Dubai for some years as an expat but his feast is fit for a king. Arabian food is unique due to spices and dishes cooked the traditional way. This video deserves an award. It's great ! "SHUKRAN" (Thank you) and my thumbs up. 👍

I appreciate that Mark doesn't just eat at the fancy and high end restaurants but also the family owned and smaller food vendors.
