Desert sand is quite pure and sterile. In olden days in the Thar desert, utensils were cleaned with sand only. Water was a luxury.

My grandpa used to grill cassava like that.. first peel the skin, than put it near fire to make it dry then burry it under hot ash from the same fire.. its taste so good..
