You might see a spark or smoke or notice a burning smell. Maybe a plug won’t stay in the outlet or items plugged into it don’t seem to be getting power.

Before proceeding, make sure you are comfortable working with electrical wires. Ensure the power is turned off prior to working with electrical. Check local building codes to make sure this is a project you are allowed to complete yourself. Call a licensed electrician if you are unsure of any steps within this video.*

I've never been so thoroughly instructed on the finer points of outlet replacement. Now if I can just remember where I put my box of paperclips.

I wouldn't plug something into it as it could of lost its neutral connection and the appliance wouldn't work but you still would have power. Voltage tester is best option to make sure circuit is dead.

If you have a plug in power tester why would you want to plug something in it to see if it turns on? Just seems like an n unnecessary step. Very informative video

Don't you have to worry about polarity and getting the right wire on the right connector?

Should have put black tape around the outlet. It’s a metal box.

How do I figure out if it's a 15 or 20 amp outlet? Is it ok if you use a 20 amp outlet if you don't go over 15 amps?
