Kids Own Too Many Toys!

We have bins for things like wooden blocks and legos and other building toys. We have one large bin for dress ups and one for weapons and one for cars and trucks. One for music instruments and one for animal/dinosaur toys. Cleaning up is easy. But I also homeschool and am home a lot with my 4 kids 8 yrs and under.

I don't think donating toys left out is extreme. We tell our 3-year-old that, and he miraculously puts the toys away. Toys left on the floor indicates that the toys aren't important enough to take care of. Another minimalist says (name escapes me atm) that one indicator of having too many things is the inability to care for them properly. What's the difference between donating toys discarded on the floor and donating excess toys? 2 sides of the same coin to me 🤷‍♀️

My 6yo daughter never thinks she has enough toys, but she has a trauma background from foster care... I try to make the space "the bad guy." Like, "Your cube bins on your shelves are already full of toys and art supplies. Would you like to donate any toys to other kids who need them?" But it's still a battle with how much she is actually able to pick up/tidy before she makes excuses of tiredness, etc. We have also tried toy rotations. I still think we're doing better than most in the USA by not having toys stored on the floor without shelf space. 😅

One the best ways is Montessori.
Rotation shelve and only a few at the time.

It always amazes me to see how much time parents spend cleaning up and organizing little play kitchens. They are a nightmare.

I used to as well... It carried over into adulthood with drum and auto polishing gear.

Finally shed most of it though!

We tell family members to not buy our kids toys and they do it anyways. Very annoying.

My son is 18...we have so many Legos! All stacked up in his closet.

Great listening I remember my toys from childhood I didn't have alot but I think that was better I had turtles gerbils rabbit dog that I loved but I know now kids most have alot of toys
