Possession with OF in English Grammar: When to Use 'Of' VS Apostrophe S ('s)

Learn how to use "of" with possession and possessive forms like ’s in this English grammar lesson for beginners. I'll teach you the basics of how we use 's to indicate possession for people and animals. We'll also learn about how to use "of" or compound nouns with inanimate objects or things.

For example: We say "the boy's bike" and NOT "the bike of the boy."
However, we say "the car door" and NOT "the car's door."

📚 In this lesson, I'll cover how we use 's with time expressions to indicate a duration or period associated with an action or event. I'll also teach you how we use compound nouns to express possession in English, and how we use "of" to signify possession, especially with parts of objects, groups, or abstract concepts.

We'll also cover the structure and use of noun phrases with possessive pronouns. At the end of this lesson, there will be a short quiz to test your knowledge!

Thank you for this video. Could you please explain why "room's natural light and size" is correct (6'32") ? "Room" is not a person, nor an animal or a time expression, so I don't understand the use of apostrophe S here.

The video is good. I knew the use of to show possession of an inanimate object, but I am introduced to the concept of compound noun as such for the first time although I was aware of it's usage. So thank you for the exposure.

I found a couple of sentences in my english book that confuse me. The unit is about describing product features:
1. The speakers are marketed as one of the phone's best features.
2. Your phone's long-lasting battery makes it ideal for camping trips.
3. The phone's dimensions mean it's the smallest product on the market today.
Why did they use 's in these sentences?
The only one that makes sense to me is this one that uses "of"
4. Our customers listed the photo quality as the number one feature of our phones.

Thank you for this video. Could you please explain why 5 and 6 are both correct? These are things and objects in possession. It should not have an apostrophe.

I missed #6 by moving the apostrophe after the s, forgetting night is a singular noun. I did wonder about #4. Is it correct to write movies' end? And finally, on #8, if you wrote She is a very valuable team member it changes the meaning of the sentence, is that correct? I'm going to watch your video on 's and s' right now. Thanks, Jennifer, you always challenge me to keep learning and do better!

The room’s natural lighting and size. Isn’t room an inanimate object?

It's a great lesson, very well taught, beautiful English pronunciation, and the 95% of the video is good. The only issue is the video EDITION because it can only be seen clear enough on a computer screen not on a cellphone. I love ❤ everything you do for your audience on this channel, but I think you need to work a little bit on the edition of the videos.. Peace ✌️

If u say "their opinion" in a sentence, and are talking about people, do u put an s on the end of an object that is theirs.

Like saying,

Forget their lame opinion

Or is saying,

Forget their lame opinions

Since we're talking about people. If u were to use that in a sentence, but this is the sentence below: ⬇️

Honest people do what makes them happy. They wont bother or care much about what others think about them.
Forget their opinion.

Would u say,

opinions or opinion

in that sentence?
